Re: 55 ford wagon

Fred,

Maybe send a personal message to steve fritz on this site. He has a '55 Ranch Wagon that I sold him a year ago as a project car. I know it's pretty much done now, and he may have...

Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question

Ross, thanks for the illustration. I would check the carb being used to make sure there is a hole in the bore too. I saw one Model 847 like that before, and there was no hole in the bore that...

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor

The port shown with the yellow arrow is for the line to the distributor diaphragm. Loadomatic carbs (started in '49) had no spark control valve in the base. In '54 (with the Y-Block V8) they added...

Re: Delay in throttle response when giving it more gas

Yes, the hole on the right is for more stroke of the pump. Your carb looks similar to a lot of rebuilts I see, as in missing parts. Supposed to be a spring, a felt seal and two washers on the pump...

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor

I'm talking about the spark control valve. Not the port for the vacuum line.

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor

The carb says ECG 5 on it, and 1 1/16 venturi. That would make it a '55 Ford car 272 Y-Block carburetor, however these carbs from '54 up had a spark control valve on them. This carb doesn't appear to...

Re: 49 F1 I 6 carb question

I'm pretty sure the small hole on the base of the carb gasket surface is to supply manifold vacuum to the power piston, that opens and closes the power valve. It wouldn't hurt to notch the gasket...

Re: Delay in throttle response when giving it more gas

There is no inline valve that switches back and forth between venturi suction and ported manifold vacuum. It's all modulated within the carburetor. Max of about 4" of vacuum at the distributor.
I...

Re: Factory Floorboard holes?

Those holes were not there originally. All I can think of is someone drilled them to drain water if there was a leak somewhere.

Re: What does this intake manifold fit ?

The Lincoln V12 did use a higher flow version of the Holley 94, and some years had a 4 bolt base. Not sure about the years they used Strombergs.

Re: Keep the autochoke on my 55 Thunderbird? Or abort and install manual choke?

Yes, an electric heated choke thermostat cap can be used, but the choke assembly on the side of the manifold would still need to be cleaned out well and working again. The bi-metal springs in all of...

Re: Keep the autochoke on my 55 Thunderbird? Or abort and install manual choke?

More than likely the problem is the choke stove in the manifold to the right of the carb is corroded and leaking exhaust gas/carbon into the choke housing, causing it to gum up and eventually...

Re: 55-57 Upper Ball Joint

My '55 Ford that had original front end parts had the fomoco with an oval on the ball joints.

Re: Daytona carburetor float valves

Hi Jim,

You probably already know, but that seems like an unusual problem. The Daytona float valves are good and actually require less float drop than the conventional needle valves.
I'm...

Re: Fuel leaking around large brass plug (fuel inlet valve?)

If the Ace Hardware o-ring does deteriorate, CASCO (classictbird.com), offers a new brass cap with an o-ring. I'm assuming the Ace one will work since the packaging said it's compatible with...

Re: Flathead Running rich

If a plug doesn't fire one time, then on the next compression stroke there is still a little residual fuel in the cylinder the next time a fuel/air charge comes in. In that case, black plugs make...

Re: Fuel leaking around large brass plug (fuel inlet valve?)

Good Job ! I get O-Rings from Ace Hardware too. Good selection, and you don't have to buy a whole pack of them. Just the one or one's you need.

Re: Fuel leaking around large brass plug (fuel inlet valve?)

I don't think the Mike's Carburetor video will give any info about the leak at that brass plug. I've watched them before. I've been rebuilding the Holley 4000 teapot carbs for a long time, and...

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

I think it says Courier on the quarter panel. I'm pretty sure they had Courier's with side windows in '60.

Re: Fuel line check valve?

'54 Mercury's were different than other Y-Block fuel pumps. They have the glass bowl/filter on top, and the vacuum pump on the bottom.
I've seen the fuel in the bowl low before, but wasn't an...
