Re: disturber drive shat

It can be disturber-ing but my intermediate distributor shaft has had surface rust on some of my Model A's. I conclude that it doesn't get oiled other than some oil mist. So, I grease it when...

Y-Block Spark Plug Wire Grommets

Is it difficult to get the wires through the grommet holes? Seems I've read about difficulties. Any tricks or just slides through easily?

Re: looking for a ride

Did you inquire at Fastenal? Usually good rates for that type of shipment. Finding a private individual going between two specific places may be like winning the lottery. lol

Re: Model A News Jan/Feb 2021 Arrived Today

First time ever and that's decades that we got both the MAN and Restorer on the same day (today).

Re: Removing 1930 front fenders

If you're referencing my post, your picture is not showing a 2x4 under the front body cross member. I place a floor jack below that "body" cross member, measure vertically from the jack's saddle to...

Re: 4 post lift

Several years ago I checked this out. Ended up with a Autolifter (since under another name) four post. Made in the USA and was certified vs. most then were just "approved" by a marketing association....

Re: Removing 1930 front fenders

I use a floor jack and a cut-to-size 2x4. I position it under the first body cross member (near front of seat). To prevent strain I loosen most of the forward body bolts.

Re: Was Plywood Used

Go the the Model A Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines Area 11 page 5. Revised 2016. "In March 1929, plywood floorboards began to appear."

Re: Coupe book??

Two coupe books BA-9 & BA-10 are listed on Snyder's website so likely most large A vendors handle them. Your ultimate question was do they show body/upholstery detail before you buy either?...

Re: Removing 1930 front fenders

While you need to jack up the body slightly, you should remove the steering column bracket to the gas tank. Doesn't take much to get a gasoline leak.

Re: Model A News Has Shipped

Got my issue yesterday and realize it's been sent from the printer. So, as someone else posted, I live 35 miles from the home office which has nothing to do with the sent point.

Re: 68C and A400

Since it's been awhile, I guess I have to go out in the 30 degrees to see what I have or don't have. How about taking pics with light behind the camera as the object is dark and shadowed.

Re: My Distributor Cam Screw is Stuck

Have had that happen a few times. Been successful with using a square-shanked screwdriver with an adjustable wrench on the shank. Need to apply all the downward pressure you can on the screwdriver...

Re: Tire Ooze Cleaner

I had a brownish-goldish hew on my Firestones on the A in my avatar after either sitting for awhile or sun exposure. I use STP's Son of a Gun tire cleaner which works very well.

Re: Drag Link Spring Compression?

I agree with Tim on this. Having bought kits over the years I ran into some springs being longer than others. I've also heard of the C clamp technique. My concern was if I could get the longer spring...

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?

I still buy occasionally on Ebay though not as much as years ago. I didn't like being forced to pay with PayPal. I re-started selling somewhat a year ago after a ten year absence. That didn't seem as...

Re: Shifter spring compressor

I've done Tom's method or somewhat like it but with a short dowel rod inside. I'm guessing but think it may have been 1/2" diameter and 2 3/4" long. This way you can rotate the spring safely with the...

Re: Ring/Pinion Question

Most like to re-use ring and pinion gears that were originally assembled together. If there is any wear at all, that's only good if the contact position of the pinion to ring gear is adjusted in...

Re: Oil Filter remote or 90 Degree

Agree. Years ago when I bought a new one they were pricey though not like now. Likely was due to Ford's service parts pricing. As I recall they were used on Econoline V 8's due to lack of space....

Re: Can't separate axle shaft from carrier

Of course, but you didn't state the spiders, etc. were removed. I agree with Kurt. If you can't get the axle out it's unlikely the carrier is ok so would not want to reuse it anyway. Maybe John in...

Re: Can't separate axle shaft from carrier

I believe I have followed this situation. Though you didn't mention it, I assume you have removed the spider gears and the yoke they are mounted on? Usually, it will nearly fall out of the carrier...

Re: Now What, should this be???

Looks like the shaft was never checked for in and out movement upon installation. Due to wear in the head where the shaft rides a original spec shaft will move. The spec was around .006/.010"...

Re: Spring........and electric blankets on the A

Ok, I searched and have not found that study on water. Again, I said it was years ago. My recollection was the article was in "Old Cars Weekly". Also, I remember a reference to No-Rosion which can be...
