Re: 49 Mercury hood binding problems

First, the hood support springs have nothing to do with locating the hood.
When the hood is closed and latched is the center of the hood level with the cowl?
Loosen the 3 bolts on the cowling on...

Re: 50 Car Steering Idler Arm?

How does it work?
I have had the kit installed in my Merc. for over 18 years and am happy with the elimination of the factory bump-steer and the improved idler arm that shows no sloppiness.

Re: 50 Car Steering Idler Arm?

Yes, Shoebox has a rebuild kit but If it were me I would consider installing their 'bumpsteer' kit which is a vast improvement over the original steering.

Re: Painting Copper Brake Lines

Yes, I know that they have "Brass Black" but at the time I had 'Aluminum Black' and figured I would try it and it worked. (might be the same stuff with a different label)

The same Aluminum Blackening will work on brass also.

Re: Painting Copper Brake Lines

Considering that the brake line is 90% copper, what I have used is this to blacken copper in the past.
If it works it would probably be a more durable finish than paint.
Might be worth a try.

Re: Do You Carry a Container of Gas in your Trunk?

Biggest risk is as stated, gas fumes.
That tank should have a vented cap that can be shut off when not in use.
Being plastic really is not that significant considering that new cars have had...

Re: Headlight/Turn Signal Question

Sure, custom locating signal lights may look great but does the location meet the requirements for locating them?

These are more views of a second one I have, BUT, If I were to do it again I would consider making a cradle to limit the fore and aft movement and using a longer strap as has been done in the post #6...

Re: 8ba generator mount modifications

Or you could add a couple home made plates to the original bracket.

Re: Headlight/Turn Signal Question

Looks interesting but they claim to be a replacement for 7 inch sealed beam head lights but in the video narrative say that the outside diameter is 6- 5/8 inches.
Might be worth a call to Speedway.

Re: 8BA Low Oil Pressure

The line you have labeled "sump" should be going to the input side of the oil filter.
If you don't have a filter then that port should be plugged.

Re: 1936 undercoating?

Ford dealers applied total undercoating as an option, as few if any came from the factory with undercoating.

Re: tesla Truck

Unfortunately from what I have seen of this 'new' Ranger, it resembles the old two passenger bare boned pickup that many liked in name only.

Re: Reassembly ?

If you are talking about the hollow fuel pump push rod, try to balance it in the center on your finger. The heavy end goes down.

If by "heat riser" you mean the tube that is located on the lower part of the intake.
Blocking that tube will prevent hot air from reaching the heated element in the automatic choke as it should....
