Don't use a screwdriver or try to pry it off. I always tap on the thickest part of the casting.
Hitting the pulley may work but they break and bend easily. Use anti-seize on that inside bolt.

Here's a good article about cleaning aluminum with Coleman Fuel, Acetone or Lacquer thinner . All will work without harming the aluminum. The problem is the fumes produced....

The last thing you want to install is a used clutch and pressure plate assembly. Bad idea.
In the end you won't be saving any money if you find the used set up to be faulty. Folks don't usually...

correct and best hone. There should be "0" play.

Flathead fever: Could you use some type of Anti-Seize Compound on your hose bibs
to inhibit corrosion? Even non hardening Permatex would work.

I also use No-Rosion. To check pH use a test strip like we used to do in high school chemistry class. I use these.
