Re: Carburetor Options

Now that's cranking. Best I ever got out of the stock head and carb on my fordor was 60-61. 5.5 head got me 65 with the same carb.

New engine with same head and carb can do 55 easily, haven't...

Re: Clutch on my 29

I'll post a picture of the tool this evening. It's made from 3 pieces of 1/8x1 aluminum flat stock, some 5/16" washers and a couple random bolts that I had on hand.

Measure from the pressure...

Re: Clutch on my 29

I just went through this myself. https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263080

The way I did mine was to first disconnect the clutch pedal to let the throwout bearing move as far back as it...

Re: Transmission Bearings?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’ll do the easy checks first, the fan is an aluminum 2 blade. I have read about balance problems with them before so it’s worth a check. The oil level was full...

Re: Transmission Bearings?

Purdy, that is my plan. I had the tower off the trans before and all the gears looked good with no pitting. It’s always shifted smoothly and never jumped out of gear either. Really regretting not...

Re: Transmission Bearings?

John, I examined the u joint when everything was apart. There was no slop or binding, doesn't totally rule out the u joint but I don't think that's it.

Brent, I personally did not indicate the...

Transmission Bearings?

I've put about 700 miles on my new engine and have recently noticed a noise/vibration that has been present for a long time starting to get worse.

It is RPM dependent, can't notice it in 1st,...

Re: just curious

Agree 100%. People used to drive these cars bone stock cross-country, no reason you can't either. Or at least mostly stock like Brent suggests.

I'm planning to drive the length of the east...

Re: Fan and Water Pump power consumption?

I remember reading a study about the efficiency of the different types of fans but I'm not sure about power consumption. I wish I had a link to post for you but I can't remember where I saw it.

Re: Starter Not Running

Yup, I greased my bendix when I had the starter out thinking I was doing right by it... now it occasionally won't engage. Been too lazy to pull it out and clean the grease off

Re: Dies at idle... Help

The only things that can heat up and cause issues in the ignition system are the coil and condenser. If you follow the advice in reply #4 that should point you in the right direction.

If the...

Re: Block Sealer, New headgasket

I wouldn't think that's necessary but I'd give them a call and see what they recommend.

How much work did yours need? I think mine just needs a new idler.

Electric wiper repair

Looking for someone that does repair work on original Model A electric wipers. Mine works well for the most part but there is some notchyness in the transmission. Most of the time it only swings...

Re: Slight coolant seep on number 8 head nut (distributor cable)

30psi equates to a compression ratio of about 2:1... would an engine even run with a CR that low?

With all the head nuts torqued correctly, I would redo the compression test as described above...

Re: STP and Transmission: any negative experience ?

Highly doubt the gears were dry as the counter shaft is always spinning and slinging oil all over the inside of the transmission.

It sounds like a typical Model A to me, they can be very...

Re: 10 years a roadster!

What a great picture. All things considered it looks better than a lot of period shots I've seen with crumpled fenders, missing tops etc.

Jack, how'd that V-8 60 do in the A? Of more interest...

Re: LED head lights

My guess is they are LogoLites. Just about the same price and the other vendors are selling them too.

Re: Help me identify engine noise?

The modern throw out bearings that are sold are sealed for life. Even if they weren't I don't think the method Ford came up with for getting grease up to the bearing is very effective.

Re: Start up w/o coolant, REALLY !

Re: Help me identify engine noise?

Yup I would concur that you can definitely say that the noise is not accessory related. Can't think of anything down low that would make that noise sort of noise.

How did you determine that is...

Re: air bubbles in rad water.

Any idea what head gasket is on your car? My problem is on a freshly rebuilt engine with 600 miles on it...

Good luck and let us know what you find.
