Re: coil

I have had excellent service from the Pertronix three OHM epoxy filled coils on twelve volts for many years without any problem. I also get performance that can be felt with these coils . I know, I...

Re: Very dirty filter bowl

I agree . I also use and recommend the stand up filter that can be installed in the cut off valve . the filter will prevent rust from stopping up the cut off valve or gas lines . If the stand up...

Re: 1928 60-A 2-Window Fordor Sedan "air vents"......

The one that I had was only on the drivers side . I think that the vent was only used on the left side of the cowl . I think that the cowl vent was discontinued because heat from the hood side vents...

Re: Brake Rod Anti Rattler

I agree , remove all the slack but don't go TOO far and cause brake drag . I also use and prefer the wire style 1931 brake rod return springs .

Re: coil

With a 12 volt system I would use a three OHM coil , no resistor needed . I run the Pertronix flame thrower coil . I use the epoxy filled version that can be mounter just like the model A coil with...

Re: Kick Panels

I would think that a paper template could fairly easily be made by folding the sides to the proper shape . I got a four by eight , thin sheet of paneling from the local hardware store to cut my...

Re: What would Henry think ??

It wouldn't be my choice for a model A but there are plenty model A tudors out there that a person can buy and fix the way that they like .

Re: 1930 Model A Tudor

I don't think that a deluxe tudor was made in 1930 . I feel that SOME want to make a deluxe out of whatever model A that they have . Carpet and cowl lights can be installed in any model a but doesn't...

Re: Kick Panels

I used what was left of the original panels as a template and cut out and covered the panels myself ..

Re: Front Frame Crossmember

I've seen front model A crossmembers patched with a short front spring leaf turned upside down and welded in place over the cracked center area .

Re: 12 volts instead of 6 volts?

I used an original type headlamp wiring harness and connected the wires exactly as original . All of my wiring on this model A is connected as original . Everything works well , just like original. I...

Re: Identifying a high compression head

The original police head had a heart shaped combustion chamber and a compression ratio of 5.2 . The Brumfield 5.9 compression head also has a heart shaped combustion chamber . Combustion chambers can...

Re: Front Frame Crossmember

They can be welded but replacement is best if you can find one that's not cracked .

Re: Water Temperature Gauge

I installed a metal probe pipe in the upper radiator hose that I got from Snyders to connect the probe . This setup works good for me and isn't that noticeable .

Re: Preferred Vendor for parts?

I prefer Berts , Brattons or Snyders . Berts has good used parts and sometimes even new old stock parts, they also handle the new reproduction parts . Brattons have the good repro parts and Walt is...

Re: 12 V alternator choice

The generator charges in amps and will charge a twelve volt battery quite well . The original starter works well . The original starter Bendix will work but many prefer to change to the modern style...

Re: 12 V alternator choice

I prefer to use the original generator whether I'm running six or twelve volts . For brighter headlamps , the 55 wat halogen bulbs work well but need to be used with an alternator for good results ....

Re: 12 volts instead of 6 volts?

It isn't necessary to convert to negative ground when converting to twelve volt unless you just want to run negative ground . I run positive ground , mostly because no wires need to be changed . Mine...

Re: On Model A Generator Voltage

The battery controls the voltage of the system . As long as it remains positive ground no wires will need to be changed . All that will be necessary is to first install a 12 volt battery and connect...

Re: Adding Guages

For me , the most important gauge that can be added to the model A is a coolant or temperature gauge . I do run an oil pressure gauge in my 31 tudor but figure that it is mostly useless because oil...
