Re: Patina paint and Gibbs oil finish OT

Wick,

I do have some rusty areas with only a little paint left. How would you prep these areas, if at all?

Dick,

I'm not smart enough to post pictures. I did post a few in the past, but it...

Patina paint and Gibbs oil finish OT

I'm sorry this is a little off-topic, but I think the same answers may apply to a Model A finish. I am actually working on a '55 with original paint, but a good bit of surface rust--not a lot of...

Re: 29 Town Car front seating

Do you mean a Town Car (chauffeur driven)
or a Town Sedan (four door sedan)?

Re: New water pump question

I just installed this same pump on my '31 after my leakless pump started leaking. As you suggested, I greased both ends BEFORE I installed it, so I could see when the grease started to come out. I...

Re: Repaired front crossmember and getting discouraged.

I would not worry about a welded front cross member unless it breaks again. My '31 coupe has a welded front cross member, and even has the crank bearing welded down as part of the repair. It was...

Re: My Pet Peeve - Landau Iron Rant

Jwilli,

Thank you for not taking offense at my comments. Now I can sleep better knowing at least one more set of landau irons is in the correct position (if I can get this darned pet peeve to...

Re: My Pet Peeve - Landau Iron Rant

You've got them on the correct sides now. The curves are correct. If you now switch them end for end, the knob at the center will come out on top of the iron, not the bottom. At least that's right...

Re: My Pet Peeve - Landau Iron Rant

THANK YOU for saying it. I love my sport coupe. (Everyone knows the sport coupe is the most beautiful of all Model A's.) But seeing the landau irons on the wrong side is like fingernails on a...

Re: spark, but not in the right places

A weak, failing battery will do this. The battery seems OK because it will turn the engine over with the starter, but there is not enough juice left to power the ignition. Try turning the engine...

Re: New Front Spring

From the picture you posted, it looks like the bolts would still be too long even if you added an eleventh leaf as a spacer. There are two different styles of starting crank bearings (crank...

Re: Wolf whistle

Many years ago, I mounted a wolf whistle on the intake manifold at the windshield wiper vacuum line attachment using a brass T as suggested above. The inside diameter of the brass fitting is too...

Re: Turn signals - thoughts please

My '31 coupe is stock 6 volt. I had installed a stalk-type turn signal switch, with my front turn signals inside the cowl lights, and my rear turn signals integral with the rear brake lights (I do...

Re: Wind pressure on wiper arm

Rainex doesn't work in the snow. You need a wiper for snow.

Re: Looking to buy a 31 - advice needed

If it is in fact "original paint" which was applied at the factory, you may want to consider preserving that paint if possible. Don't be too quick to paint over it. The seller may mean that it is...

Re: hood support

I have the 22250 type hood support on my coupe. There is a strange magnetic attraction between the hood support and my bald head. Any time I am within three feet of my car with hood up I have this...

Re: International Harvester? What year?

Many years ago, one of our MARC members had a restored IH which, to the best of my memory, was a 1908. It look very similar to the picture in Post #1, and so I think your
indication of 1910 is...

Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt.

My Garmin works great on 6-volt positive ground Model A. Just be sure you reverse the polarity on the socket. I have run it for several years with no problem.

Re: 1931 ford sedan

Original deluxe tudors had a small clip riveted to the metal panel where the rear arm rests were attached. Sorry I don't have a photo, and my memory doesn't allow me to describe this any better. Of...

Re: leaks around differential bolts

I used Indian Head shellac just as Tom Endy suggested. This did not totally stop the seepage, but improved it to a manageable degree. My hands and fingers got really messy with the shellac, so I...
