Re: Renumbering question

On our 1929 Sport Coupe that we have had for over 40 years. The engine was replaced with a rebuilt in the late 70’s. No question was asked by the engine rebuilder, he ground down the old number on...

Re: Do YOU single-clutch ?

Double clutch going up or down the gears. Corners are a challenge, each one can be different.

After 60 years I still don’t get it right all the time. So far, have not lost a transmission.

I...

Re: Taking the plunge into Model A ownership!

I would just add to this good advise. That there are some states that do not title cars after a certain age. New York and Connecticut as an example. You would only get a bill of sale. Keep...

Re: Taking the plunge into Model A ownership!

I would wait for a car that has had its running gear gone over. Front end, brakes, Springs, shocks, engine and trans.

I would want a safe driving car. You could end up paying $14,000.00 to...

Re: Need to purchase an outside rear view mirror for a 29 Tudor

Yes, fits tight, you do not have to use the little screws on the inside that one of the posts mentioned effected his paint.

Mounting bolt replaces hinge pin.

Put on drivers side top hinge. ...

Re: Need to purchase an outside rear view mirror for a 29 Tudor

Just put a new one on our 29 Sport Coupe. Hinge type from Bert’s. Very happy with it.

Does not vibrate when driving.

I highly recommend.

Enjoy.

Re: 1930 Coupe front end shimmy

I agree that you have some real problems in that front end.

If it where mine, I would replace front axel, wishbone, and front spring. Than repair all the worn out parts, all of them.

You, I...

Re: Any info on A217, Sport Coupe on MAFCA website?

It’s over 90 years old and someone has spent a lot of time and money taking care of it.

I like it. My 92 year old aunt has some add on parts that were needed to keep her going.

92 is a long...

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?

I think ebay has a place.

As with any buy/sell location, it’s not for everyone.

Enjoy.

Re: Compression Test Results

I agree, your compression is just about half of where it should be.

Think of your heart. If your blood pressure is in the toilet, your in trouble. Doesnít matter how good you look. You canít...

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

We also turn it completely off when no longer running car. Donít turn it down tight, just turn it until you feel it stopping. Keeps carb from dripping.

Enjoy.

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

Carburetor problem.

We have a 1929 Sport Coupe, car gets around 18 mph around town,

We run with the GAV open about 1/4 turn when car is warmed up. We start the car at full turn open. If I...

Re: Engine Misfire Knock

I would go with two piece shaft and rebuilt distributor.

Enjoy.

Re: Engine Misfire Knock

I would try the 20w-50 High Detergent Oil and the Marvel in your gas.

The miss firing could very well be several sticking valves. That might also be a big part of the sounds your hearing.

The...

Re: Engine Misfire Knock

I won’t be to quick to start taking things apart.

First thing I would do is add the Marvel Mystery Oil to your gas. Than I would pull the plugs and check them. If old or if there age is unknown,...

Just took a ride in the 29.

You know, even after 60 years of driving these things, it still puts a smile on my face to go out for a drive.

My wife heard the Model A start up and came running out to go along.

I canít...

Re: wet floor 30 A rumble seat area

I donít think that back in the day they were thinking about a car lasting very...

Re: vibrates when backing up

Have the same problem in our 1929.

Only when backing.

New clutch, pressure plate, pilot and throw out bearings.

Going forward it is fine.

I just live with it. Slip the clutch with very...

Re: Over Fill Oil

Remember there is a dipper tray that the rods rotate in. It only holds a given amount of oil. Anything else over flows down into the oil pan. The extra added oil is in the oil pan not the dipper...

Re: Frame to front and rear end alignment

Similar problem when we put front end back together after rebuilding.

We were using a different wishbone. The original one was worn and bent where it mounted to front axel on drivers side.

Re: Winterizing a Model A

I have done the same thing for the last 60 years.

Drain water and stick a small...

Re: Over Fill Oil

I knew an old Model A owner who for years put five quarts in every time he changed the oil in his car.

He would always say, “the service bulletin says it holds five quarts so that’s what I add”. ...
