Re: Breaking free old frozen transmissions: Tricks?

Get as much grease and oil out of it as you can and then fill it with Evaporust or similar to attack the rust. Maybe a couple of two or three day soaks.

Re: A few questions on a 8BA

Now we're havin' fun!:D

If you are going to soak it some more, get some Marvel Mystery Oil; it usually works, but even if it doesn't, it smells good.:)

Re: '50 Ford car brake drum

Rock Auto has new rears for $30. I don't suppose they are the same as fronts, maybe?

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

I particularly like the round-bottomed coils that have "The Best Coil I Ever Made" engraved in the bottom. I like that show of confidence.

Re: Let's build a drag race 8BA engine

I quit drag racing when they eliminated the human flagman and went to the "Lights".:(

Re: Let's build a drag race 8BA engine

You don't need a huge engine. There was a guy on here ("MTFlat"?) that ran a steel '32 3-window with an injected flathead that ran consistently in the 13's and occasionally dipped into the 12's. As I...

Re: Need your advice for new engine

"Lawrie" in Australia uses just about this same setup and pulls a "Caravan" (camping trailer to us US guys) all over the place. I think there is still something wrong with your engine, because it...

Re: It’s a thing of beauty! But now some questions…

I bore mine all the way down to the base of the manifold and then round the edges of the transition from the throttle bores. I have no real measurements, but it seems to me that when the vertical...

Re: Shocks are bottomed out

Be careful when dealing with "Johnny Law Motors". I think they are a part of "The Hoffman Group", and thus suspect. There are some negative posts about them on thee "H.A.M.B.", but if they have what...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Basically, if the distributor has two coil terminals, it uses one of the special coils or a "MagSpark" unit.

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

BY "NOS MagSpark", I assume you are referring to the distributor. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. I think the dash switch just cuts the ballast resistor in and out. I also have an extra 12...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Chris,

It looks like you have the components for a complete "MagSpark" unit. I have been grabbing every bit of Mallory documentation from the web I can find for the last 5 years and have a folder...

Re: 94 carb.

I would think that if you have to run 2 1/2 turns out, something isn't quite right.

Re: Generator or alternator ?

For a 6 volt system, a stock generator is fine. I have been running one on my '51 for 33 years without a single problem. Well OK, I had to replace the regulator once, but the generator was (and is)...

Re: Let's build a drag race 8BA engine

With all of this talk about getting more air (oxygen) into these engines, I have to wonder why Nitrous Oxide is not more popular.

Re: It’s a thing of beauty! But now some questions…

If you're referring to me, please do, as I have done several. I have a jig that you can use to bore the manifold and had a bunch of 1/8" aluminum plates made to seal off the bottom of the 2G, which...

Re: It’s a thing of beauty! But now some questions…

I'm a little confused. The purpose of using a Merc manifold is to allow you to use a larger 4 bolt base carburetor (usually a Rochester 2G). Why would you consider a "bigger bore 94" (which flows a...

Re: Off shore adjustable lifters

With the pricing information "GOSFAST" is providing, it does not surprise me that "Flathead Jack" would not try to inject himself into the situation to take advantage of it.

I remember being...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

That's like the "MagSpark" I have. I find it interesting in that it has two ballast resistors that are on the distributor side of the coil. My "FlashFire" (for want of a better name) has only one...

Re: 49 Ford front glass

I think "mrtexas" is right. I did this in 1959 to my '51 and the only thing I remember was that it was easier than I thought it would be. The ones I usually remember are the ones that really fought...
