Re: weld or JB weld spacers on lower frame?

I would weld them. JB is just epoxy glue despite the name. It should not take a real heavy circuit load to run a 110 mig. I have circuits set up for the welder with heavier breakers, but sometimes...

Re: engine swap

Although there are ways to get around it with a 164t bellhousing and a longer pilot bushing, the SBF would normally require a longer trans input shaft.

Easiest to do would be an FE 352 360 390...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

I did order up a couple extra sets of those generic rubber parts from Speedway long ago cuz I kinda expect that to happen too. Compared to the ordeal of getting the engine height and placement right...

Re: motor mounts

It should fit with stock 351c manifolds. My 55 has stock steering box with a 72 351c 2v manifolds. If you have 4v manifolds it may be hard to find info on that.

Another thing that could possibly...

Re: How to lift a Y block

Reversing those hold down steel cups will give you enough length with the manifold in place and leaving the intake on will probably decrease the likelihood of bending the studs, though they are...

Re: 1955 customline 351 c motor mount help

You don't have to change steering box or use headers. I have a 55 Crown that has a 1972 351C with stock 2v cast manifolds and stock 55 steering box.

I also started the post about modifying SBF...

Re: How to lift a Y block

Sounds like a good way to get it to flip over.. Top-heavy. I always lifted them with a chain across intake bolts. Right sized chain will fit intake studs closest to carb front. Tighten nuts on the...

Re: motor mounts

Here is the rebuilt Wagner/Kantor 1 1/8" rebuilt 57-58 PB MC. Casting says FE 23237, but Kantor tag says MC 23236. Dimensionally identical exteriorwise to the Ford 1" manual 57-58 brake MC, so...

Re: motor mounts

Ok, I got these 20 and 10 years ago so who knows what could have been swapped by then, so don't bet the farm on it.

But the machine chambered head manifolds had the number starting with 5 and did...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

The 400 pickup manifolds clear everything by a long ways though, even though they are larger. No matter what height the motor is set at, there is no issues with 58 steering gear clearance, 57 A arms...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

All the 400 manifolds are 2v Cleveland size at the head. These I think are from a 77 pickup with a 400. The profile is larger, interior space is larger and exhaust exit ends of the manifolds are...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

Yep I have a 351w on an engine run stand with the 63-64 Galaxie mounts on it and the Cleveland is the exact same far as bolting the mount on. Probably where I managed to make it different was using...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

That looks like a good job done on that. Angle corrected and the whole works.. Looks like there is a lot of room to work with between frame mount and motor mount. Enough so a crossbolt adapter would...

Re: What MC do I have

IDT it is a real strange number on his master. My core MC has the identical number as shown in pics and I just randomly grabbed that one cuz the handiest. My rebuilt PB one from Kantor has a...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

Just like this... Still have to finish the top and bottom of lower half by replacing cut out sections. Probably will cut off the bottom inch of the triangle section parallel with the top of it and...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

Got me thinking too. I could cut the triangle shaped piece from its base with a grinder zip blade and slide it down a couple inches. There is room on the engine side to do that. And moving it down at...

Re: Modifying Butch's SBF to 54-58 Ford Engine Mounts

Nice drawing.

Yes, it is the manifold clearance that would then become the problem. I have maybe a half inch at most that I could gain between the top plate and manifold by grinding off a tab...

Re: What MC do I have

I have a bunch of 57 and 58 stuff, including multiple brake hanger brackets and they are all identical.

Sid may be on to something cuz we are talking 1/16" difference per hole (.0625) and those...

IDK... I have the identical one here and a power brake rebuilt 1 1/8 bore MC unit as well that came from Kanter. Both these do have the 1 7/8 center to center vertical bolt holes though, just like...

Re: What MC do I have

Sure you didn't measure inside edges of the firewall holes vertically instead of on center? That would get you about 1 7/8"...

Re: What MC do I have

Can't be 2 inches, your MC bore is at least 7/8" and from the pic your bolt holes are around an inch outboard of the outer edges of bore. So looks closer to 3 inches like mine..
