The B distributor has a auto advance. The timing on an A engine is set closer to 0į or retarded. My understanding is that’s to protect you from kickback while hand cranking.???

Have you hooked up the starter directly to the battery. Either polarity, it doesn’t matter.

A loose pinion nut etc can cause vibration. I’m not sure which is which, but one problem vibrates on acceleration and one problem results in vibration on de acceleration.

Yes, it’s in the service bulletins twice. Different gaskets seem to make a difference in how many times it needs to be retorqued. Although they didn’t torque them. They “tightened the nuts”.
