I started over. Setting carrier preload. Now have carrier assembled rt axle housing w/no gaskets. L housing on & torqued w/2 thicker gaskets. Ring gear spins so looks like i_ll have to add shims...

I have the carrier assy, and ring & pinion gear (no axle s or spider gears with 1gasket on each side and the gear s click when turning the drive shaft. Does that mean the gear s should be closer...

just got back to this problem, but it seems like when i turn the drive shaft be hand and the gears mesh and actually touch they would have to click in an empty (no oil) housing. i got one shim...

trying to mate a '46 ford backing plate to my model A rear axle. the mounting holes line up, but the large center hole is maybe a 1/16" smaller, should i enlarge that hole to fit over the flange on...

trying to put '46 ford brake backing plate on my "A" axle and the large hole in the center of the backing plate doesn't quite fit flat on the model A axle. do I have to enlarge the hole to fit over...

the books tell me to adjust the (differential) pinion preload to 20 inch lbs of drag. i don't have a wrench that registers inch lbs. both of mine are foot lbs. is there a way to convert it?...

how wide are they? the spring i have is 2 1/4" wide, it seems too wide to fit in the rear crossmember easily.

i'm back! bought a rear axle (cheap) had to replace the axle shafts and housings. found better housings and shafts. my first axle had a 37 tooth ring and a 9 tooth pinion gear. the better shafts...
