KR Wilson HCCT

I picked up a KR Wilson hand crank coil tester at Hershey that I am trying to get operational again. It is in pretty nice shape except for the wiring which was deteriorated to the point of barely...

Re: V8 Camshaft Bolt Pattern

Very interesting. When you say move the bores “inward” 1/8”, do you mean inward along block length or inward of the “V”? Questioning because inward to the V will change pistonTDC to cam timing...

Re: Info on Schramm aircompressor

If you PM me your info I can email you a pdf scan of an operator/parts manual. I have two of them. One was in the same enclosure the engine was gold. Tin work did seem to be red. Also have a floor...

Re: 80# Oil Pump Upgrade

The flat on the pressure relief valve on the early engines is to oil the cam gear to block thrust face. As Bored&Stroked said this was eliminated on 8ba when they changed the thrust into the timing...

Re: New block

In the SCTA all "normal" engine classes are broken up by displacement only. You can build it from scratch if you would like, and some have. Only the few vintage classes require original production...

Re: New block

I'm not super familiar with flathead Cadillac but do they have more conventional smaller outside diameter valve guides?

In my opinion the main reason the Ford flathead had the large diameter guide...

Re: Flathead valves and flow??

I'd say you are right on track. On the 39-41 Mercury blocks the valve eyebrow cut is just that it intersects the stock 3.1875 bore on the drivers side. This creates a sharp corner which is more...

Re: Flathead valves and flow??

The 59A blocks have the same valve geometry as the 8BA blocks. It's the pre-WWII blocks that have the valves closer to the bores.

Re: Slightly O.T. - Looking for info on best car trailer winch to purchase

I have a Superwinch S5500 (5500lb) on both my enclosed and open trailers and are very pleased with them. They also make a 7500lb version, but the 5500lb doesn't work very hard pulling my race car...

Re: 8BA or 59AB to power belly tank at Bonneville

barnfind - Thanks for the compliment, years of planning and packaging that all gets wrapped in a body where you see none of it.

Re: 8BA or 59AB to power belly tank at Bonneville

"Period correct" and legal for Bonneville are two ends of the spectrum. You can be true to the 1950 time period for engine technology but to be legal for Bonneville today there will be no doubt your...

Re: Gears For A 53-56 Dana 44 Rear End

My memory was close but not perfect.

I have a 4.27 set with the pinion marked Salisbury 18449 with 10 spline pinion yoke. Manufacture date of April 1951. Quick search references that number for...

Re: Gears For A 53-56 Dana 44 Rear End

I may have a NOS ring and pinion from that era truck, I think they were 4.11. Will check tonight and post the part number.

Tony,

Congrats on the Schramm buy, they are definitely interesting. What are your plans for it, get it running or for parts?

Re: Bonneville salt flats

All things considered we had a really good week. After making a bunch of runs right around 165 I was starting to feel like I was just beating and old horse that refused to go any faster up the hill....

Re: New block, a further discussion

In the SCTA the oem blocks applies only to vintage engine classes and the fairly new iron roadster class. All "normal" engine classes that are simply cubic inch ranges you can do anything you want....

Re: New block, a further discussion

I couldn't remember the angle change off the top of my head. Had to look it up.

They are rotated 0.72 degrees up on the post war motors.

Re: New block, a further discussion

The SCTA would allow an engine such as this to run for "time only" and not be qualified for any records.

Re: New block, a further discussion

I've been following along with this discussion and thought I'd add a few thoughts.

In regards to the need for vintage racers, for the SCTA all non oem production blocks are not allowed. Not even...

Well I don't have any good stories of speed in a stock bodied car. Maybe I'm not that brave.

But I do like to see what the flathead will do in my bellytank. Video was from the Ohio Mile last...

Re: 39-48 Main bearings versus 49-53

Sealed Power does have different numbers:

39-48 uses p/n 533M
49-53 uses p/n 646M

You can download the entire Sealed Power catalog on their website.

I have everything for the front of the block, but never measured the 8ba back, only early stuff.

I send you and email.
