Re: Trqnsmissions casting numbers

Re: 40 engine temperature drop by 20 degrees

It can be done with a wheat stalk penny tapped into the crossover holes in the block. Only the wheat stalk, though, as the crappy alloys of the newer pennies won't stay in place. Alternatively, a...

Re: Holley 94 carb jets

The .51 jet would be for use at sea level to about 4000 ft. Above that altitude, .50 or .49 jets would likely run better. Trial and error, going by spark plug color. The .47 you have was likely used...

Re: Body Number Tag- '38 Convertible

They were aluminum, installed with the intention of being masked before painting. If it were mine, I'd seriously consider leaving it in it's present condition rather than to experiment with removal...

Re: fuel economy

Re: Body Number Tag- '38 Convertible

Gary, the 580 number on you plate identifies your car as the 580th model 760B assembled at that plant, which is not identified on your plate. 1938 was a transition year during which assembly of car...

Come out to California. There's a process here that anyone can do. It's called a "Sideshow".

Re: Fuel pump rod - what is the purpose of umbrella?

Partially true. We are no longer capable of producing many parts due to environmental laws and lack of investment capital. The Chinese are very capable of producing anything we used to manufacture...

Re: 1937/38 ford bumpers

Bill, I beg to differ. '37 passenger rear bumpers followed the bobbed rear fenders.

Re: first drive after a loooooong slumber and shes making a bad noise.

Ring gears are matched with pinions, serial numbered in pairs. Both axles, ring gear, and spider gear are removed from the driver side as an assembly. The pinion must be pressed out of the banjo....

Re: first drive after a loooooong slumber and shes making a bad noise.

Gas man, welcome to the Ford Barn, and congrats on your new-to-you Merc. Sounds like you've jumped right in with little experience in old car stuff, like so many of us have, but never fear, its going...

Re: water heater installation

Clem, the heads are positive pressure, the water pump hoses are negative pressure. To maintain a flow through the heater, the heater inlet must be from the top, and return to the bottom. If the...

Re: Bat piss

There are high pitch noise emitters that work very well to evict most unwanted creatures. I would think that bats would be top of that list due to their navigation system relying unsound waves. Check...

Re: Ford script battery case identification?

Mike, The Duck made script cases many years ago. I've never seen cases with handles, but I'd heard that after he discontinued the batteries, the cases were then referred to as Ford Script flower...

Re: Identifying carburetors

Your carb is a Ford/Holley, which replaced the Stromberg carbs. Nothing is compatible between them. The model 59 was used on Ford products from 1945 till 1948, and but for the controls, was the same...

Re: Identifying carburetors

The mating surfaces of the new Economizers don't match the old carburetors. Charlie ny has what you need.

Re: Identifying carburetors

Your Economizer's diaphragm has either been blown out by a backfire through the carb, melted away by modern fuel, or isn't seated with it's gasket properly. Take it out, check the mating surfaces and...
