The car was built to run with a six volt electrical system. Increasing battery voltage by 33 percent is not a good idea. You can see when bulbs burn out but what about damage to the coil, etc? ...

Lawson, on my setup the fuel pump stand fits over studs coming up fron manifold. The fuel pump is bolted to the female threads in the stand.

Thanks to your suggestions I was able to find the problem. It was the mechanical fuel pump not working at all. Luckily I had a rebuilt on hand, installed it and motor runs great.
