Re: Resistor for coil on 1956 Thunderbird

Here is a wiring diagram example.
Which way the ballast resistor terminals face depends on its mounting bracket and the position of the coil.

Re: Front engine mount for 292 Y-block

If you want to raise the front of the engine after it's installed you may need to slightly loosen the steady-rest rods on the sides of the block.
My '55 came with a front mounting bracket like...

Re: Front engine mount for 292 Y-block

Photo one, the rubber parts for the front mounting pad on the crossmember.
The front mounting brackets in photos 2 & 3 are similar but the one with angled ridges is correct for '55/'57 T-Birds.
It...

Re: Mile-o-matic blows fluid out filler on cold start

Is it overflowing out of the top of the tube?
If the transmission isn't overfull that would be from internal pressure, being caused by some part of the transmission not working correctly.

I like...

Re: Mile-o-matic blows fluid out filler on cold start

I believe a fair amount of the fluid drains down into the pan when it's not running. Then refills the torque converter & passages when the engine is started.
Most automatics have you check the...

Re: T85 transmission question

Yes they are.
The fellow who wrote and/or compiled them (Gil B.) closed his restoration business a couple years back and isn't as active in the T-Bird hobby as he once was.

Re: How high is the hood on a 1956 T-bird? (should I be concerned?)

Here are photos of two front motor mount brackets that bolt to the timing cover. The second one with angled stiffening ridges is 'correct' for T-Birds, the other one (red) will work but there is less...

Re: 55 F100 battery light

It isn't connected correctly and isn't a gauge, just a 12v light bulb.
Go back and review the correct Gen light wiring in comments 7 and 8.
It should not be connected in series with the gauges,...

Re: How high is the hood on a 1956 T-bird? (should I be concerned?)

I couldn't come up with anything in a hurry to place inside the fender openings where the hood sits, so I used a string stretched side-to-side across the very tops of the fenders. On my '55 the top...

Re: T85 transmission question

What 56sedandelivery said is my understanding as well.
Letting the clutch pedal out in neutral grabs the clutch disc and spins the 'front' / input side of the trans up to engine rpm, while the...

Re: Oil dip stick tube length for 292 - Thunderbird

It had oil up to the rocker arms so it wasn't dry when it actually started. But yes just all the assembly lube until then. Like I said, it wasn't the 'best' way.

Re: Oil dip stick tube length for 292 - Thunderbird

The oil pan holds 5 quarts plus one for the oil filter. I suspect the spin-on filter holds slightly less than the oem canister style.
After running the engine the first time the oil level on the...

Re: Oil dip stick tube length for 292 - Thunderbird

I measured the two T-Bird dipsticks I have, one is a reproduction the other may be original.
From the cap / tube cover to the tip I got 25 & 1/2 inches on both of them. From the cap to the Full mark...

Re: Fordomatic late shifting ('57 thunderbird)

A couple dirty 'before' pictures.
