Re: Happiness Is.....

Family and Fords together is the best. Big smile this afternoon watching my wife take off in her 1934 Ford pickup (barn truck) to get some special hay for a sick horse. My toys have to earn their...

Re: starter/sol II

Ouch! That's a new one. For that to happen, the ring gear on the flywheel may have shifted. Can you look around the armature to see if the ring gear is flush with the back of the flywheel? If not,...

Re: Carb Spacer

Most vapor lock occurs from alcohol boiling in the fuel pump, because the metal pump is mounted close to the engine block with only a very thin gasket, and is in the back, partially shielded from...

Re: Symptoms of worn out sector shaft?

How much free play is there in your steering? It is important that this be tested with the wheels straight ahead. So drive straight ahead for a good distance and stop. Then, when parked with the...

Re: #4 Piston Removal

Ditto Ron. What is the basis for your diagnosis? Valve noise can be mistaken for wrist pin. Check the valve clearance on #4 before you tear it down.

Re: Multiple Carbs

Or, run progressive linkage adjusted so that the secondaries do not start to open until half throttle on the center/primary. With opening that late the secondaries will probably not reach full open...

Re: Just a little nostalgia

A little California-centric, but I had the same complaint about Hot Rod Magazine, and kept my subscription for at least ten years. Back East the hot rod story started with boot leggers and ended up...

Re: starter or solenoid problem.

Easy battery test for a solenoid that clicks but does not crank and cable connections are good: Hit the starter with the headlights on. If they do not dim at all, the solenoid contacts are not...

Re: Low end

Maybe float set too high, or debris in the float valve, or fuel pump pressure too high, causing minor flooding at low power. If you smell gasoline when things are getting jerky, that is a dead...

Re: 1937 Deluxe Turing Four-Door Sedan value?

Put a few rounds of 38 caliber into the side and advertise it as a gangster car; they loved four doors! Should bring $20k+

Re: 8BA compression issues

Have you verified that crank gear to cam gear is properly timed, per Kurt NJ suggestion?

Very unlikely that valve clearance is the problem on all 8 cylinders. Probably rusty valve stems causing...

Re: 1949 Ford f5 1.5 ton dump truck need info

Those valves and lift cylinders were generally designed to be easily rebuilt with hoses and seals, regardless of brand. Take your parts to your local truck repair shop and I bet they will be able...

Re: Heater Core

What is wrong with it. Why won't they attempt repair? Have you found an old time radiator repair shop, versus the more common parts-replacers.

Re: 35 Ford Wont Crank

You can check the foot actuated starter switch by shorting across its' terminals with a screwdriver. If no crank, loosen the connections on the switch, wiggle them back and forth and retighten. ...

Re: Rebuilt engine

Yeah, if you bought a rebuilt short block from Western Auto, you knew it had never been run. But it if it cam from H&H you knew it had been started and run on a test stand. Just suggesting that...

Re: Rebuilt engine

Was the engine run on a test stand after the rebuild? If not sure, I would worry about the cam lube having run off. In any case, I would do the initial oil priming and test run with Valvoline...

Re: Master cylinder bleeding

By bleeding the brakes cylinders, you also bleed any air from the Master Cylinder. Attach a clear tube from the nipple on the bleed valve down to the catch jar. Crack open the bleeder valve (maybe...

Re: On the horn now

Connect a volt meter set on the 10 volt DC scale between a bare spot on the horn itself and a good chassis ground, or the battery ground strap. Push the horn button and watch the volt meter. If it...

Re: 1950 Ford Tudor 8BA Flathead will not start.

According to the Tilden chart for the Schneider 270f, the intake valve should open 27 degrees before Top Dead Center on the exhaust stroke, and the exhaust valve should close 23 degrees after TDC.

Re: 1950 Ford Tudor 8BA Flathead will not start.

You have plenty of compression to start and run. I have seen flatheads run that would not pull over 60 psi on any cylinder. The point is not that your compression is too low to run; the point is...

Re: 1950 Ford Tudor 8BA Flathead will not start.

Good catch, but it should at least start and run poorly, with no vacuum advance

Re: 1950 Ford Tudor 8BA Flathead will not start.

An overbore engine with Offy heads should pull compression over 140 lb. Makes me suspect that maybe the cam was installed one tooth off.

Re: Intermittent sticking valve

I started getting a little flutter on the vacuum gauge at idle about 3000 miles after the build. Ran some MMO through the intake and the problem cleared up. I now add 4 oz of MMO to each tank of...

Re: electric gas pump on a 39 PU Frame

Amen. Any sign of softness or swelling, replace with the best stuff available, certified for use with gasohol.
