Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

"Sal, You must know by now that oldmics sent me just here to aggravate you ... :D

'Del Rio' 1957/1958 only."

Yes. I was aware they built base Ranch wagons and Del Rio versions in '57 and...

Re: 1955 Mercury Steering Wheel Value

I've seen them for sale for outrageous prices (when like new or restored well), but don't know if they ever sold. It's easy to go on EBAY and search for parts that actually sold to get an idea of...

Re: New Poll, What Year Fords Do We Own?

2009 Ford Focus. Lol. It's the only Ford I own at the present time. Was looking for an old Ford in late Feb., then the Corona Virus epidemic killed my IRA. On temporary hold now.

Re: Holley 94 vacuum port plug

I've cut off the end of a 3/8"-24 bolt before and then cut a screw drive slot/filed it flat, instead of using a brass original soldered shut.

Re: '65 T-Bird fuel pump

You might want to check your oil level in the pan to see if it's high or smells a little like fuel. If the diaphragm in your bad pump was ruptured, it could have dumped fuel into the crankcase.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

I guess I stand corrected. I was going by my Encyclopedia of American Cars which hasn't failed me until now. It lists all Country Sedans from the mid-50's on up as 4 door only.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

I have to respectfully disagree about two door Country Sedans. All year Country Sedans were 4 doors. The car pictured I'm guessing is a '59 Del Rio Ranch wagon with a country sedan emblem, and...

Re: Header Suggestion

"Application Note: These headers won't fit most Model Ts or Model As due to narrow the frame width, particularly on the passenger side. 1948-52 Ford F1 (1/2 ton) pick-ups will have interference...

Re: 1962 Thunderbird Ball joint Question

Seems to me NAPA should have it or could order it. They have a lot for older cars. Got my rubber brake lines and wheel cylinder kits there for my '55 Ford. All were in stock.

Re: Resperator Production

Tom,

I retired from Ford powertrain engineering in 2013 (Truck engine calibration). Maybe we crossed paths at one time.

Yes, I also noticed the author didn't seem to know the details of what he was talking about.

Re: 55 Fairlane New member/barn find

Can't see the distributor diaphragm, but the intake is definitely 1955. The intake and carb at least were changed somewhere along the line if the VIN started with a "U".

Re: 55-56 ford mercury tech

Go to this link. On post #340, there is a Ford Ranch Wagon with a '55 or '56 Mercury front clip installed, including the massive front bumper. Don't really know if any modifications were needed, but...

Re: 55 Fairlane New member/barn find

The intake, carb and choke assembly are all 1955. Distributor I would guess is a '55 single diaphragm, but who knows without a picture.
If it was a four barrel engine swapped in, you would have to...

Re: Ford 1963,1964 and 1968 Indy 260/289 Engines

There is one of these engines (picture) along with a Lincoln V12 (stock) on engine stands in the lobby of the Ford Engineering dynamometer building in Dearborn, MI.

Re: 55 Fairlane New member/barn find

I can help you with the carburetor and the choke on the side of the manifold if it's stuck, when you get to that point.

Re: Holley 94 air screws

I have no idea why that was done to the idle mixture screws, other that someone wanting to seat the screws and still be able to idle. Doesn't make sense to me at all.
I guess it's possible the carb...

Re: 55 Fairlane New member/barn find

Yes, "U" indicates it was built with a 272 2 barrel Y-Block V8.
Somebody swapped on a 4 barrel some where along the line.

Re: Low oil pressure solved

Mistakes can happen to the best of engine builders. If it happens on a regular basis, that's a different story.

Re: 55 Fairlane New member/barn find

It looks like the mice had some fun, but a nice car. I assume the first digit of the VIN is an "M" since it appears to have a 272 4 barrel engine. Unless it's the very very rare "P" code 292 police...

I don't know if Charlie ny is helping out Bubba or not, but I know he also does the Chevy distributor to flathead V8 conversions.

Re: New Carb Question

The spark valve was added to the Holley for the Y-Block V8 in '54 (EBU carb). It was also used in '55 and '56 on the Holley two barrel (ECG-5 and ECG-6).

The carb you posted with the spark valve...
