Re: Starter or Switch?

Guess I’ll start by removing and cleaning switch. May replace it. If that doesn’t help, I’ll pull the starter and get it rebuilt. Maybe the brushes are bad.

Starter or Switch?

Recently replaced a lever starter back to original foot button. Switch seems to be pushing and releasing as it should. The problem is that it only will intermittently turn the starter. Sometimes...

Re: Starter linkage/Rod

Sorry for the confusion and my ignorance… certainly the starter foot pedal is lined up to starter. I think I will simply get the correct button and rod. The setup that was on there was more trouble...

Re: Starter linkage/Rod

This one is just starter actuator. That Fulton one is attached to the spark lever. This one is not. How can the normal pedal have a straight rod when it isn’t in line with the starter switch?? This...

Re: Starter linkage/Rod

I’ll take a couple pics and post. In the mean time, can someone post a pic of what the connection at starter looks like with a regular pedal?

Starter linkage/Rod

31 Model A. Had one of those steering column levers for actuating starter switch. Part of it broke. Looking for a replacement or was thinking about just going back to foot starter. Car still has foot...

Re: 47 Flathead gas in oil

I have just put on a another carb. I was hoping to verify what caused it instead of only checking oil level frequently.

47 Flathead gas in oil

Getting very significant gas in the oil of my 47 flathead. Looking for way to diagnose the issue. I have electric fuel pump for assist on starting. Heard that perhaps bad diaphragm in stock pump may...

Re: Flathead Timing Gear Failure?

ItÂ’s a 59 AB. Two bolt distributor. The service manual I have shows bolt on cam gear but doesnÂ’t say if fiber gear. DoesnÂ’t look to difficult. CanÂ’t think of anything else to check that could...

Re: Flathead Timing Gear Failure?

Kube, guess that will be my next move. How difficult is it to replace the gear?

Re: Flathead Timing Gear Failure?

I appreciate all the input. I was told by someone else that the design of the distributor kind of rules out the timing being way off. I have only owned the car for a year. It ran well. Smooth. no...

Re: Flathead Timing Gear Failure?

If it was one cylinder, I would think rings, valve etc. I don’t know what the compression was when it was running fine but all cylinders had the same problem all at once?

Re: Flathead Timing Gear Failure?

I have not pulled the distributor but I know I have spark at the plugs so I would expect that spark is not the issue. Carb seems fine and even swapped it out to check. Isn't 30 psi too low for it to...

Flathead Timing Gear Failure?

47 Coupe. 59A. Car ran fine until a no start issue. Would then start intermittently but then, nothing. After checking ignition, coil, fuel etc., have both spark and fuel. Ran compression test on all...

Re: Another Coil Question

Car is a 47. Sounds like easier starting if sending more voltage to coil but over time, not a good thing. I did resistance tests on coil and got lowT 0.7 and HighT 8400. I’m going to replace...

Re: Another Coil Question

Original style coil. Cant understand why they seem to have bypassed the resistor. The guy I got the car from was very knowledgeable. Either way, any advice on diagnosis?

Another Coil Question

Diagnosing a no start. 5.5 volts at coil. My coil is original style with 5203R marked on side. Do these coils have internal resistor? When I got the car, running fine. I notice now they had both...

Re: Coil Wire

Replaced ignition switch. Still not starting. Guess I’ll try replacing condenser. Could it be the resistor on inside of firewall? How can I test that?

Re: Coil Wire

Took resistance measurements on the coil. 0.6 -0.7 ohm low side and about 8500 on high side. Is this in the ballpark? Like I said, 5.4 volts reading at battery side of coil with ignition switch on....

Re: Coil Wire

Always have trouble posting pics. The high tension wire goes from bottom of my old style coil into a rubber boot that is in line with the metal tube with plug wires. Apparently this is where it...

Re: 1947 Super Deluxe ignition Switch

Well it seems I found the issue. Hi tension coil wire seems to have been spliced between coil and where it enters boot to connect to plug wires. I will replace it but wondering how the non coil end...
