Re: 1948 Speedo to '66 289 3-speed - what cable to use?

OK Fellas,

Thanks for all the info. I bought a standard length Mustang speedo cable at Autozone. The box says it's for a '66 Mustang. The length will work fine in the 1950 F-1 so no problem...

Re: 1948 Speedo to '66 289 3-speed - what cable to use?

Fellas,

Here's a photo of the back of the original '48 speedo coupler. I'm guessing the gears on the original '48 would not mesh with the 289 3-speed. So, what if I buy the correct one for the...

1948 Speedo to '66 289 3-speed - what cable to use?

Hey Fellas!
I want to use my original dash gauges and speedo in my 1948 F1 truck, but I have a 289 with a 3-speed trans. How can I use the original speedo? Will a speedo cable for the 3-speed just...

1946 - 1948 Convertible or Sportsman vent window and frame assembly

I have an almost perfect vent window, frame and division bar assembly from a 46-48 convertible or woody sportsman car. Might even fit a 1942 as well but I'm not sure. Would prefer pickup in...

Re: 1950 F1 hydraulic clutch need ideas

OK, just to clarify...what I'm really looking for is a photo or possible idea of how they fabbed up the bracket and how they adapted the linkage. I'm hoping that the linkage has enough throw to...

1950 F1 hydraulic clutch need ideas

Fellas,

The PO did a poorly installed hydraulic clutch with a firewall mounted clutch arm. I like everything to look "stock". Has anyone installed a MC directly to the pushrod off the original...

Re: 3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

Update: I finally downloaded the 150 page Timkin seal catalog and was able to find a seal that fit. It was installed and I'm going to get my truck from my buddies garage this weekend. I'm thinking...

Re: 3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

Great point 40cpe and Kultulz!

How would I be able to check that fit? If I have the wrong yoke it would only be 1/8" smaller in diameter than the 1 1/2" yoke. I doubt I would be able to...

Re: 3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

Kultulz,

Great info thanks! I ordered the seal from NAPA and will give it a try. The shaft diameter looks correct, but the OD might be off a little, I'm not sure why. The seal spec says...

Re: 3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

PS - The trans has a stamp on it: HED-BK-0137-15

Calipers on the trans where the seal should be show:
OD 2.35, and for the ID 1.37

It had the wrong seal which is how we discovered the leak...

Re: 3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

Again, mine is a 3 speed trans, not 4 speed. I thought I read somewhere that the early 64' Mustang 6 cyl engine may have had a 1 3/8" yoke and after that year they all switched to 1 1/2". So I need...

Re: 3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

Hey Dobie, thanks for the info but when I looked up the T85 FMX trans seal on the Rock Auto site it still lists the shaft diameter as 1.5" and not 1 3/8". Do you have a source for the seal with the...

3-speed Toploader - wrong yoke?

Hey Fellas,

I've been going out of my mind trying to find the correct rear trans seal for my recently purchased 1950 1/2 ton with a 289 engine and trans. We are speculating that the engine may be...

1952 Pickup 5 star hood trim?

Hey Fellas,

E-bay sells the replacement 5-star hood badges and center bars but I never see the upper and lower bars for sale. Does anyone know if the '48 and '49 hood trim bars can be cut down to...

1948-1952 F1 front brake hose? Same as rear?

Hey Fellas,

Here's a strange situation...the catalogs show different part numbers for the front and rear brake hoses on the F1. They also mention they are slightly different lengths by about an...

Gas Tank swap? 1953 tank in a 1950 Pickup?

Hey Fellas,

My 1950 pickup truck project came with a crusty old tank that mounts behind the seat. I called the local radiator and tank repair place and they said it would run about $200 to...
