Re: 2 or 2 1/4" Long Shackles

In this application it's not a concern. Long story...trying to recreate a suspension setup on an old dry lakes car.

2 or 2 1/4" Long Shackles

My apologies in advance for this odd request, I'm trying to find the source of a 2" or 2 1/4" long (bolt-to-bolt, not width) shackle. I believe the 42-48 fronts are close to this size but don't have...

Re: I"m back ! (finally)

What the hell does this have to do with Model A's????

Interesting that someone posts a thread on a period modification/add-on and the thread is met with disdain (you know who you are, one-star...

Re: Looking for engine stand plans

Not really a 'storage' stand - and it doesn't exactly conform to your requirements of support via the oil pan rail, but I'm in the process of building a run-in/test stand using a spare T frame and A...

Re: 31 vs 32 Model A

Absolutely not true. There is also a myth that the A frame was designed to fit the T body (in case Ford wasn't able to complete the job) but this too is a myth. The 1928 Ford was a brand-new car...

Re: Re how to lower an A the old fashioned way

Nothing needs to be done; it works fine with a moderate drop (32-6 axle, reverse eye spring).

Re: Installation of Temp Gauge

I've found the opposite to be true; electric gauges available at my FLAPS are off often as much as 20*. I prefer to stick with vintage SW gauges or the original Rex-A-Co units made by US Gauge in...

Re: compression head?

The Winfield and Super Winfield heads look nothing like the originals; spark plug location and bosses are completely different. I believe Snyder's does (or did) sell a hi-compression head that...

Re: Babbitt vs Inserts

Bingo! Our cars were produced in an age where technology was expensive and labor was cheap; that dynamic hasn't existed in the auto industry in 50-60 years...today, quite the opposite is true.

Re: any info on winfield intake?

I've seen at least 3 different styles of dual intakes for Winfields; none that were actually made by Winfield as far as I know.

First style, shown here on the Johnny Bean roadster circa 1938...

Re: Ford engine green paint code

Roy Nacewicz has the correct formula. I believe he matched it when he worked for Ford.

Anyway, it matched some NOS parts I have. www.fordbolts.com

Re: Repaired Winfield Crowfoot on eBay

Interesting...crowsfoot or non? Mine is a non-crowsfoot...I've heard they were different in valve pocket and flycut height.

Re: Repaired Winfield Crowfoot on eBay

Curious if you know how deep the flycut originally was on the 6:1s...after cutting, mine ended up at 0.035 and I know it was cut 0.025" this time. With the truing up my block needed, we ended up...

Re: Repaired Winfield Crowfoot on eBay

From my experience, best place(s) to buy Winfield stuff is at swap meets. Ebay prices are outrageous and you can't really tell what you're getting.

Saw two Winfield heads at Chickasha pre-war...

Re: Converting model a starter switch to pushbutton

Have you considered a Model B cable switch? Uses a choke style cable to operate...super simple to install and you can put the cable almost anywhere.

Re: Shock absorber paint question

Late 1930's Houdialle factory service manuals call for them to be painted "M-1713 Air Dry Black Enamel" FWIW, M-1713 corresponds with Ford chassis paint (V8 era).

Model A era shocks were most...
