One inch wide insert bearings
Pulled and engine apart. Two observations.
1) It has insert bearing on the rods. The inserts were centered in the rod journal but were only one inch wide, not the usual width of the rod.

Welting on a 29 roadster pickup.
I have a 1929 roadster pickup.
Is beaded welting installed between the door posts and the front quarter panels in the same manner as between the gas tank and the cowl?

Repairs to top iron nailing material
I believe the original nailing material inside of the top irons of a 1928/29 Model A roadster was leather. I have a set of irons where this material is rotted or missing.

Engine Vaccum readings
What vacuum should a good Model A engine pull at say 40 miles per hour.
At Idle my engine pulls a steady 18. At 35 - 40 it drops to above 10.

Hastings 60 rings
I have a set Hastings rings.
One ring is the oil ring for the bottom piston groove.
Of the two remaining compression rings, one has no camfer or bevel on it and no identification on either side....

You can also bench test it by spinning it with a variable speed drill. You will feel it load up the field and with a voltmeter you will can see the "voltage" out put.

I installed new bearings etc.
When I put it back together, I ended up with approx. 22 thou of gaskets on each side to get the backlash and preload correct.All the...

6 volt ignition coil failures.
Have installed an electronic ignition system as per instructions on a 1930 model A.
Unit runs well for a few days but eventually the main coil fails.
Replaced coil twice with same results--uhm!...

Yes the engine was broken in a similar manner as mentioned in the comment of this thread. My basic question is how do they run --- usually.

Hot hot is too hot
New engine, 80 degree day, running 50 - 55 up a hill, reached 200 degree's, on the level at 48 - 55 seems to run between 180 and 190.
Is this normal. I was pushing it to make it work.
