The jumper cables were getting hot so I took the battery out of my 41 and hooked it to the solenoid on the stand. Turned the toggle switches and it turned over. Looks like bad grounding and...

All things are relevant. If you are cammin' the engine consider a mechanical advance distributor. Gas mileage will suffer, but drive-ability should be fine.
