I am sure others will jump in but I have read in other posts to leave the car running and then shut off the fuel valve. This uses the fuel out of the bowl. This ensures no carb leaks.

Ford installed them originally. Many people have removed them over the years. They use two of the oil pan bolts and two bolts to the frame.

Yes, it depends on how long and how well they fit when installed. Is the axle out of the car? With the pin out you can put penetrate in fluid in the hole and if the axle is out put it on the bottom...
