Just to recheck with the foil balls and get that 50 thou piston to head...

Yes thats my thinking also. Coud remove one head and check where the 8RT head is at with piston to head clearance and go from there.
Or just complete valve clearance checking and keep on trucking....

Have an 8BA fitted to 38 PU. Doing a bit of work on it. Presently have inlet manifold off to check all valve clearances.
This PU runs well with approx 12500 mls on rebuilt engine. I did not do the...

Normally i just pull off the plug wire for checking with copper wire plug leads.
But read somewhere with carbon leads and electronic distributor it can cause damage to electronic unit. This is the...

i understand with electronic distributor you need to earth pulled off lead to block to avoid damage to unit? when checking for popping.

Thaks the kind of thinking i'm looking for . Understand adjustable lifters ar in use but screwed in to accomodate the use of the slightly longer chev valves.
And this can be confirmed with shorting...

Just to make sure your carb bowl is full before you try to start. Takes plenty cranking over to pull fuel through and fill the bowl to enable engine to fire up.
I have experienced this problem....

Trash Can Condeners Tubman

I have just recieved 2 condensers from Tubman for my 39 coupe.
It will now have a bullet proof condenser to go with a Skip coil and 3rd Generation distributor.No more problems here!!!

Normally you will find an etched code on all Skip's rebuilt coils on the underside.

Has oil been recently changed? Perhaps fit an oil pressure gauge at engine, check here. Then could also try a heavier grade oil and go from there.
Another oil presure gauge fitted would be my first...

Initially decide from original tear down what can be reused, machined etc such as c/shaft, camshaft, pistons, rods etc then see whats needed then.

This morning out to garage and engine started right up after overnight and cold start. Must be some link as to cold start and hot restart. I'm hoping condenser?

I see on recent posts on similar the use of a 4 pole solenoid to give full voltage for start up and also the use of a diode to give the same full voltage for start up.
I'm using the coil with 0.8...

Well I did similar after the non start. Put a jumper across the resistor. It started right up. So changed it out with a spare??? Will keep the jumper handy in meantime.

Have you rechecked the timing? Incorrect timing will give these symptoms.
Also are you 6 or 12 v ? Spark plug leads and high tension leads breaking down under load may also give these symptoms....

So been playing around with ignition system on 39 coupe still 6v +ve earth.
The trail of the Electronic Unit which does away with condenser has not been performing as hoped.
So changed her back to...

Gonna go back to the old style coil and have some good condensers ex 3rd Generation and now some ordered "trashcan" style with the generous assistance of Tubman.
Dont like the adaptor with the HT...

Good reading in all articles.I'm a simple 6v points ignition system so the solid copper wires for the spark plugs. And refit the original Skip rewound coil and a couple of the important ones should...

What is the recommended wire to use for spark plugs. The copper core is the one to go with and not the carbon core type right? Where to get a set of good quality plug wires?

Appreciate your thoughts as to the carbon core wire at HT lead.
Will be going back to original coil as rewound by Skip and that should rule out the coil. Condense is supplied by 3rd Generation so...

Today was having 6v +ve earth system checked for irregular miss and hard starting. Presently fitted with can coil to adaptor plate on diver's helmet distributor. Carbon core leads.
Had 3 HT leads...
