Have had similar. Turned out to be front bearing spinning in front cover housing! Armature was also damaged in way of bearing location.

So I removed dash light dimmer switch and that was my problem. Found the contact on rheostat not making.Adjusted and all good with lights now.

What carb is fitted. to check bowl float is full then perhaps remove air cleaner and operate carb to check fuel flow and delivery. Sometimes can help if one person can pour a small amount of fuel...

Much appreciated. Parts are hard to come by " down under". I did manage a NOS armature for my Generator from ebay with a good price and shipping.
So that will get it done. 39 generator with pulley...

Have since checked and armature from 46 generator is not long enough. So will have to go with a correct style replacement armature for the 39 generator.

6v Generator Swap

Have a 6v generator with mounted fan. Its suspect but have a 46 generator.
Will it fit with the swap of the front cover with mounting plate?
Both being 2 brush type.

I usually use a rattle can of etch primer as above gives a good grip surface for your engine paint.

Appreciate the info on alternative pump seals. Yes the freight is a killer to and from from "down under" not cost effective. Brought some new pumps from this site for $60.00(good value) but add to it...

Ok thanks for that clarification. A groove at front end of casting to accept the snap ring. Mine does not have so assemble without.

Perhaps the Best Gaskets which have a composite modern materials in use.
Also depends on heads in use, CI or Aluminium.
