Re: 6V Pos. ground Flathead V8 generator wiring

Yep, you have to know which generator you have, it's either a 3 brush or it's a two brush, those have the output terminal on the rear end-plate, the field and ground are on the top.

Re: 6V Pos. ground Flathead V8 generator wiring

IF... your generator is a 3 brush unit, came with and has a cutout on top, that is a pre-1939 generator and does not use an external mounted regulator. The output connection on the cutout goes to...

Re: Generator Voltage

The Model A is NOT some modern "needs to be perfect", "exact to a fraction" or any of this modern car crap, it has no computer, is basic electricity, treat is as such and forget all this 'perfect'...

Wheel nuts

Ford Barn has posted a warning earlier, do not use repro' wheel nuts, I found it out the hard way last week. Left rear wheel fell off, all my repro' nuts gone, put it back on, a big mistake since...

Re: I guess I am a Model A person

Take heart, it IS a Model A so relax, a car that most anybody can fix. Got my '29 Town Sedan two years ago, not running, BAD wiring and more, I paid 4100. I've since rewired 100%, I use all black...

Years ago, I had a big tube radio under the dash, also a heater in the rear floor of my '30 tudor, 50 cp headlamps ... the Model A generator simply did not do, I bought a used '40 V8 generator &...

Re: Crankshaft end-play

I buy radio solder online, (I'm not in the shop now) it flows much better, has it's own flux. Babbitt has to be CLEAN, I use a lot of ether for cleaning. I have two larger electric irons, you have...

Re: Crankshaft end-play

My first was in '48, 25 bucks from gramps', a '30 tudor. By 1951 it was beating everybody at the stoplights, it was fast. Cops finally got me at 92, I took that body off, put on a sport coupe body...

Re: Crankshaft end-play

We've just returned from a 1300 mile trip in our '29, from east central MN to Medora ND, we drove 45 going out there, were in a car show, won first place in the unrestored original class, I put the...

Re: Crankshaft end-play

In '55 I was back from Europe and the army, a friend and I built an A dragster, later used a B, had an OHV head, ran on alcohol & nirto, our best time was 126 mph in the quarter, Twin City Speedway,...

Re: Leaky Tire

Don't fool with damaged tubes, ordrer a new one from Snyder's. The best way to put a tire together is to have your tube in place, I usually put a close fitting washer over the stem, then add a cap...

Re: 3 brush gen' conversion to 2 brush with regulator

Just finished, tossed the 3rd brush, welded brackets on, mounted a '55 Ford regulator to the firewall, hooked everything up nice, works like a million, runs my 50 cp bulbs no problem. This could be...

Re: 12 volts instead of 6 volts?

When I get in my car I want a REAL Model A, not a relative of a street rod, if I wanted all that modern 'stuff' I'd buy a car with that already installed.
I use 50 cp bulbs, you can buy anything...

Re: 12 volts instead of 6 volts?

You're the smart one pal, if I wanted a CB radio, LED lights and a DC player I'd buy a modern car with that stuff in it. A Model A is a terrific car, been driving them since 1948, closest I get to...

Re: Gear oil

Why would anybody use this thick junk in a transmission or rear end, they're gears no different than today and every bit as good, go to Walmart and get some 80-90, get rid of the tar, put in some...

3 brush gen' conversion to 2 brush with regulator

No doubt some 'electric guys' have already done this, turn your 3 brush gen' into a two brush unit with a regulator, no more fooling with the third brush when lights on. I have a '36 V8 generator,...

Re: 12 Volts Are Welding My Starter Button!

12 volts in a Model A is like using LSD or heroin .... just say NO !!! Put a 6 volt battery in, use the heavy 6v cable(s), have your starter fixed, new bearings & brushes, this ain't a 390 you're...

Re: 12 volts instead of 6 volts?

Why fool with this, put in the battery that's supposed to be in the car, use a heavy battery cable, make sure your starter is GOOD, it will spin your motor just fine, NEVER use 12 volts, fix your...

Re: Crankshaft End Play

I fitted my crank end play at .002. If it turns it's good, you don't need the crank slopping around, none of the newer engines do this, the Model A is no different, it's just another motor. A...
