Re: Horn rod again

Once the brass cup is soldered to the bottom end of the wire, simply file the solder flat so you have a wide contact point with the spring loaded horn contact in the middle of the wiring harness...

Re: body paint

Another alternative to expensive paint matching are the little Testers bottles of enamel for $1.99 at Hobby Lobby. You laugh but I painted my cabriolet Duchess & Lombard blue, and inthe Testers...

Re: Battery connections

Been using Optima for 15 years & never applied any corrosion preventer as there are no escaping gases to cause it. Terminals always stayed bright & clean.

Re: Original metal valve stem?

I've used the replacement stems & they work fine. I put some of Snyder's replacement '30 stems in my tubes, bought them 30 years ago at 1/2 the price they are now & they worked fine with no sealant,...

Re: Horn

Push down on the horn button with the palm of your hand and rotate a number of times to break up the corrosion on it's contact. If that's the problem you will hear an improvement in the sound.

Re: Anyone have an old speedo cable for '28-29 they'd be willing to part with?

Take a large nail, cut the head off, file it square to fit the speedo & whirl away. You have to run the drill in reverse.

Re: Trip

I love following your trip. I reminds me of my cross the USA trip in 1973 in my 1928 Model A roadster pickup from San Diego to New Hampshire & back, 9,000. miles in seven weeks.

Re: Scotch Free Roller free wheeling device

I had one in a '30 coupe in 1968, it is a simple in/out box. When I restored the coupe I pulled it out & sold it to a fellow in Arizona.

Re: Gas gauge float and what is it?

You could also silver solder a washer on. Less heat than weld or braise.

Re: What is keeping the cam from coming out?

The bearings & lobes are hitting the bearing holes in the block. You have to jiggle the cam to clear every lobe & bearing. Putting the timing gear back on will give you a handle & bit of leverage to...

Definitely an upstanding guy! I had him overhaul a converted Columbia for my Model A pickup in the 70's, and it's still running strong!

Re: Does anyone have Macbeth headlight lens on their Model A?

I only have one and it is in a '32 headlight bucket mounted on the out side of my shop. Comes on when I turn the shop lights on so friends driving down the street can tell when I'm in the shop.

Re: Registration Cost Question

In California the registration fee is based on the price you paid for the vehicle, (or what you stated the purchase price was), the rest are added to that. I don't know what % the fee is.
