Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .

VeryTangled, I'm familiar with Dave/Mike's car and agree its special. And I certainly don't want to hijack his thread. I was able to find a set of Roadster side curtain irons, and I have a copy of...

Re: Head Bolt continually weeping

What Jack E/NJ said :-)

The last photo is of my '34 engine, not the original poster.

Re: 34 Phaeton Top Irons

I'm in no hurry so I may first play with a chrome paint product to see how it looks. I'll post some photos once I get around to it. In the meantime I'm going to see if I can find another chrome...

Re: Head Bolt continually weeping

You really need to seal the threads on the block end of the studs. Otherwise the studs and nuts will corrode over time and make those pretty painted heads look bad.

It also looks like some of the...

Re: Pertronix Nightmare

I recently converted my '54 Mercury 6V positive ground car to PerTronix ignition and coil. Car is now much easier to start and runs great.

Re: positive ground vs negative ground

My car is still 6V+ and I could use some of your old 6V+ parts if you'd like to get rid of them. Just PM me. Thanks, John 54 Mercury

54 Mercury Sun Valley Trim Piece

Can anyone share a photo of their Sun Valley trim piece like the one pictured here. The one on my car looks to be homemade, but I'm not sure. (The small trim piece that covers the 3-way joint at the...

Re: Fuel line check valve?

Yeah, I probably could have added this to that other thread but it turned out there were two separate problems I was fighting - a blocked vent tube (previous thread) and vapor lock (this thread). So...

Re: 34 Phaeton Top Irons

Qual Krom gave me a quote of $2400. Yikes! I'll have to look around some more.

Has anyone tried coating top irons with one of those chrome paint products?

Re: Fuel line check valve?

Yeah, I'm going to see if I can bend the fuel line to get a few inches clearance between it and the exhaust. The line is a new pre-bent stainless line from Classic Tube, but I'm guessing the factory...

Re: Fuel line check valve?

Finally got to work on the Mercury today. I traced the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump and found a spot where the steel fuel line comes within an inch of the exhaust pipe. (My '54 has dual...

34 Phaeton Top Irons

I'm thinking of getting my top irons restored (re-chromed). Has anyone done this recently? Other than removing the irons from the car and wood bows, does each piece have to come all apart? Any...

Re: Fuel line check valve?

Took CrownVic55's advice and loosened the non-vented gas cap, started the car, ran it for a bit, and shut it off. Bowl stayed full. I must have a restriction in the gas tank vent line. I'll throw it...

Re: Fuel line check valve?

It takes less than a minute to drain down. The 2 check valves inside the fuel pump affect the gas inside the diaphragm chamber within the pump. In my case, gas is draining from the glass bowl back...

Fuel line check valve?
