Werner, when I had a similar problem I installed a dirty leg. When the rust clears up I will install the correct valve and pencil filter. If you are not sure what Iím talking about, do a google...

spark plug caps

Hi all, I was just looking at a Restoration Supply Co. catalog and noticed something called ďspark plug capsĒ. I must admit I like the look of 3X and other vintage brass capped spark plugs. Anybody...

Re: Clutch shudder and horseshoe shims

To clarify, when the clutch pedal is pushed down 1/4", the throw out bearing begins to touch at least one of the fingers on the pressure plate. The clutch pedal can easily be pressed down one inch...

Clutch shudder and horseshoe shims

I recently replaced my clutch when I could no longer shift without grinding the gears. I assumed my problem was a spring slipping out of place on the clutch disk. What I found was a broken rivet. I...

Window glass

Hi all, my local club had a vehicle inspection day today and we were unsure how to distinguish between tempered glass and plate glass. Laminated glass was no problem of course. Any suggestions?

Re: Installed battery cutoff switch today.

A choke cable or maybe a bicycle hand brake cable will allow you to turn off power from inside the car. See the thread started by Doug Nichols on mar. 21 2018.

Re: wheel size

Merry Christmas all. I should point out that pick-ups did not change all at once to the new style in 1930. I almost bought a 1930 open cab pick-up that still had the 1928/29 body style but then again...

Diamond B i.d.

I know this is unimportant but I'm curious. The engine in my car is a model B. It has the small diamond in the casting but there is no date code. Is this common?

Re: model B motor in model A chassis

No problem, that's what I'm running right now. You must make one change to your timing procedure: instead of setting the timing with the spark lever all way up(retard) put the lever 1/2 way down.

Re: Canadian Model A/AA production numbers

Tom, the rad emblem on Canadian built model As was unique. The script was raised like the 1928/9s but there was no enamel. They were bronze, whether it was originally plated or not I do not know. Not...

Re: Grinding gears

Thanks for your help guys. I should have added that I had the idle set barely above stall speed and of course the starter spins the motor even slower. The free play has been adjusted gradually from...

Grinding gears

I've been having trouble lately shifting gears quietly. I figured a little adjustment of the clutch release arm was all that was required, it's always worked before and I had more than enough free...

Repro Gear shift lever

I know from other members in my club and also fordbarn that not all shifters are the same quality. Who sells the best? Judging standards do not matter to me.

Radius ball washer and caster

My high school geometry was too long ago to figure this out. How much will the special cupped washer increase the caster?

I just put good rebuilt shocks on the front of my car and then oiled the spring with oil from the crankcase. A friend questioned my choice of oil. I thought I read that here on fordbarn but now I...

Re: Would leaving the ignition on cause damage to the coil?

Some of my friends avoid this possibility by hanging the keys on the gas shut-off handle. Also avoids memory lapses with the shut-off.

Re: old spark plugs

Bill, Do not limit your potential market to the 32 Ford V8. The C4 was probably the most common 7/8-18 plug in use in the 1920's and early 1930's. High end cars like Auburn, Cadillac and Packard to...

Vacuum gauge reading with a Model B distributor

I always hook up a vacuum gauge at the start of the season as a diagnostic tool. With a model A distributor I get a range of about 16" to 20". Recently I installed a model B distributor. What numbers...
