Re: Engine Vaccum readings

Ignition advanced fully usually not good either. All things being correct, the lever can provide a timing that is more than what is safe. Try retarding the timing slowly at a constant speed and see...

Re: Mounting a second Rear drum light

The cross brace is where the US brackets attach. They're threaded inserts (3). I suspect that Canada export cars were the same. The inserts are like Huck riv-nuts, swedged in place. The cross brace...

Re: Modern Valve Spring Retainers 30 CCPU

Re: Head gasket question from a newbie

Sadly, no one makes a gasket that is thicker in the middle Is your straight edge a bonified machinist straight edge? I think your question might be " how much time between: Drive to around 160F &...

Re: Original "Ford Logo" Shocks

With that date and Chicago they were reproductions and maybe friction and not hydraulic or rebuildable. I have MAFCA magazines with ads from back in the 60s but that wont tell whats inside and I have...

Re: Newbie having brake (?) issues

How hard was it to get the hubs to "pop" off of the axle taper. How chewed is the axle and the I.D. of the hub. Keys will shear and axles will spin in the hub and cause this. Also wear at the carrier...

Re: Rear end oil leak

Can't go very far because you are hard up against the transmission and the speedo drive parts are a problem. You will get enough gap to wrap a piece of dental floss, impregnated with #2 permatex,...

Re: Newbie having brake (?) issues

I would hold off on tearing into the brakes until thorough visual. Metal to metal should be obvious if that is the issue, other dragging contact might be visible as well. Gather all the helpful hints...

Re: Front Spring Shackle Removal

Good larger slide hammers usually have a hook attachment in the kit. That way you can pull, and not drive out on the threads

Re: No compression

Cam may have lost it's relation to the crankshaft - broken teeth on fiber gear. The procedure has been covered hundreds of times here. Good time to get familiar with the advanced search feature. Try...

Re: No compression

You can pull the side cover but you already have the head off. You said that you could see the valves move. Why?

Re: Spark and Throttle rods-30 CCPU

The outer sleeve of the steering column and the levers is the total of the equation. Take it to the moon and and it wont affect the interaction of how the notches feel. #1 bending the lower plate is...

Re: 2 Cylinders Not Firing Update

An intake valve can open and appear to close BUT not seal. Same goes for the exhaust. Next test would be to bring #2 up on compression stroke, exactly at TOP dead center. #3 would be at top but on...

Re: chirp, chirp, chirp - Update

Water spray on the edges of the belt should tell you if the belt or pulley area is the culprit. If so, look at the generator pulley. Some are cast iron and some are riveted together sheet metal. The...

Re: 2 Cylinders Not Firing Update

Has your bushing adapter come in yet? In the meantime, do a vacuum test. any auto parts store or even wallmart. Don't be replacing parts untill you have diagnosed. Remember what you said - could be...

Re: 2 Cylinders Not Firing Update

It is good that you realize; there can be more than one problem. That is usually the case with machinery this old. That is the reason a compression test and later a cylinder leak down test are...

Re: Motor won't run

Bob C is right. 35 with the reading going back to "0"each time is not a compression reading as such. A compression tester has a chack valve so the second and third and fourth hits accumulate for the...
