Smile Re: Grill screen air flow

I got suspicious of grill screens on a cross country trip in a full size dodge van many years ago. I bought and installed the screen that went clear across the front of the van. Eventually the van...

Re: Grill screen air flow

Since I've driven Old Henry everyplace I ever wanted to drive him, I've shifted my interest to "road trips" in my old 1982 17' Silverline Nantucket ski boat "Sharkie" with the original Mercury Black...

Grill screen air flow

I have always discouraged the use of screens of any kind in front of the grill because it reduces air flow to the radiator needed for cooling, especially at very high ambient temperature. But, I've...

Re: How do I buy Bob Shewman thermostats?

I've since suggested one improvement on this idea. Twist the single strand of wire on itself on each side so that only one strand has to be compressed by the hose instead of two. It also holds the...

Re: Great Plains Road Trip

Sorry I missed "The Landmark". I just went where Mrs. Google told me to go. Always the quickest route but not always the most scenic.

Re: Great Plains Road Trip

Speed 60-65 mph.

I didn't check my gas mileage on this trip. It probably was not as favorable as one might think on the flat land, the wind was blowing strongly against us much of the way.

I...

Re: Great Plains Road Trip

Since I drive my car every day and keep it maintained and repaired for that daily use, there really isn't any "trip preparation" that I do. If my 5,000 or 10,000 mile maintenance is due I do that,...

Re: Great Plains Road Trip

Average 60 mph 400 miles a day = 6.67 hrs/day. But, with a lot of photo and video stops, gas, restroom, and eating we were on the road 8-10 hours per day.

Re: Great Plains Road Trip

Car ran without a hitch. Just had to adjust my throttle cable once to keep it working as cruise control. That's all.

Great Plains Road Trip

I fell in love with road trips as a kid living in Utah and traveling to Arkansas every summer to spend the summer there where my mother was from. Dad tried to take different routes and see different...

Re: Old Henry

The only vehicle I have that will fit my 8 1/2 foot wingspan is my 15 passenger van.

Thank you all for your concern. I am still alive and well. I did a 5 Day road trip across Kansas and Nebraska a couple of weeks ago but havenít written it up yet. It is true that my passion has...

Re: Birth of the Road Trip - 100 years of the Lincoln Highway

Wow! 12' 4" is big. I just watched a couple of videos of the Sailaire. Those led me to this one of a 51' RC glider. The biggest in the world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG9LzT60RLM

Enjoy.

Re: Birth of the Road Trip - 100 years of the Lincoln Highway

I'm afraid an 8Ĺ' (2.6M) wingspan won't fit in Old Henry. It'll have to stay home.:( It'll just be me and little Lady again.

I do have a close friend and neighbor with a very nice camera drone...

Re: Birth of the Road Trip - 100 years of the Lincoln Highway

The volume of my work has taken a dramatic upswing and distracted me from many of my fun passions. I still drive Old Henry every day and am hoping to find time for another road trip soon. In the...

Birth of the Road Trip - 100 years of the Lincoln Highway

This is a fantastic documentary about the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway in the United States. Of course, starring old Fords.

Fords in the fall 2017

It's time, once again, for our annual photos of our Fords with the beautiful fall colors. Here's my entry. Didn't have to go far for this one. It's right across the street.

Re: To Yosemite Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

I think I figured it out - overdrive. My engine spins too fast over 65 mph while yours is turning much slower at those speeds because of your overdrive. Less gas, less oil. I may have to consider...

Re: To Yosemite Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

Ya gotta add Lawrie to that list. He does many thousands of kilometers all over Australia in his 33 pulling a camping trailer (caravan to the Aussies).
