Re: How many Model A Phaetons were made?

Yes, and when the Model A was new, the phaeton was not really a popular body style. If the weather was not pleasant, you got wet, you were cold, etc.

But it was cheap! Only $395 in 1928! (That's...

Re: Resonant Rattle

Do you have the 2-piece swing-out hood supports on the car?

My Dad has them on his car and if you swing them in all the way, so that the moving part touches the fixed part, they will tap each...

Re: Steering wheel position

The dealer service bulletins suggest that if the spokes block your view of the speedometer, reposition the steering wheel to have the spokes form an X.

I could not find anything in the Restoration...

Re: Radiator overflow

There is a simple test that can be run on any engine called a "block test kit" to check for a bad head gasket, crack in head, crack in block, etc. I got mine at NAPA.

It sniffs for combustion...

Re: GPS charging on an unregulated 6v system

The various car chargers out there for GPS and cell phone use have varying grades of voltage regulator chips built into them. Some are more tolerant of a noisy 6 volt signal coming into them than...

Re: Re Insurance

I have seen repeatedly in court that waivers are not worth the paper they are printed on. The courts throw them out. Waivers just intimidate average people from suing, but if there is a claim of...

Re: Re Insurance

You are correct about the risk to any member that volunteers to be an officer or a director of a local club. If there is an incident, they will be sued for negligence and their personal assets are...

Re: Radiator fill question

You will not see coolant above the baffle when engine is cold. I use a little wooden stir stick that I picked up at Starbucks as a dipstick on the side to the baffle.

When out on a drive, engine...

Re: Gas tank cap venting?

^^^^

The most important first question to ask! The '28-29 caps are pretty reliable; the '30-31 reproductions are a real pain, not venting.

You should never hear pressure escaping when you take...

Re: Original Price?

All good points.

And remember, Ford was a private company through all this. Henry had bad experience with shareholders early in his career and HATED them. So he kept Ford private for a long...

Re: Need help near Atlanta diagnosing motor issue

I agree with Brent, now that I see the compression numbers. They are all high enough and close enough to each other to make a valve problem unlikely.

As he said, incorrect coil polarity can...

Re: 31 Carburetor Adjustment

Did you check the faces of the manifolds where they bolt to the block with a straightedge, or have the assembly milled by a machine shop, to make sure that the 5 surfaces all at the same level?

Re: Need help near Atlanta diagnosing motor issue

What compression numbers are you reading using the rubber stopper? I suspect sticky valve or burnt/leaky valve. This would show up in the compression numbers.

Re: Original Price?

I have an original invoice for a new Sport Coupe from 1928. The buyer had the dealer put 2 wheel wells in the fenders on the car and the invoice had the extra cost listed for 1 wheel and 1 tire&tube....

Re: Original Price?

The page on the left was a preview, pre-release, advance notice ad to prompt people to go to the showroom on Dec. 2nd, 1927, and the drawings were not 100% accurate. All retail cars sold included...

Re: Battery Discharge

Remove the fuse and connect a test light across the clips of the fuse holder. If it lights, you have a drain. If no light, then no drain (at that time). Wiggle and jiggle things until the light...

Re: How do you guys keep your lights on!!??

How many candlepower are the bulbs you are using? 32-32? 32-50?

At 6 volts, you will be drawing a lot of amps with most of the headlight bulbs we use today (except LED). The slightest...

Re: Spinning stud on rear wheel

You will have a hard time removing the wheel and drum as a unit on the rear wheels. The tapered axle shaft into the rear hub is not easy to separate.

Try wedging something like a pry bar between...

What you describe is classic bad condenser problem. They become heat sensitive and short out internally when hot.

Re: GPS Operation

First, you need a Garmin GPS model that supports "custom waypoints" to be downloaded into it. Not all GPSs can do it. You need an upper end model.

Once you have that, you can put a custom route...
