Re: Brake Drum Paint
I have always had mine powder coated. They mask the bearing and braking surfaces. Reasonable, beautiful and long lasting.

Re: Leaking Head Studs
Was there any type of thread sealant applied to the studs when installing them to the block?
I believe most of us apply our favorite sealant in that area.
Usually, the small leaks will stop on...

PITA the first time. I use one thin blade screwdriver to move the end of the ring away from its seat. Then push another in the opening between the drum and ring that was created in "step #1".

Re: Public Service Announcement: Avoiding Ethanol
Seth, I have to wonder if the issues you have occasionally with your small engines has to do with age of the engines?
I have a Stihl chainsaw and a Toro with 23hp Kohler, a Honda trimmer (4 cycle),...

Re: Spring removal and Columbia installation
I did misstate. Actually, both housings must be removed. Thanks for the catch. I didn't mean to add confusion to this thread.

Re: 48 Ford gas fitting going into gas tank
If I understand correctly, you are replacing the fitting at the end of the fuel line. Correct? If so, the line needs to extend no more than 1/2" beyond the end of the fitting.

Re: Spring removal and Columbia installation
Gosh, I'm not certain where to get high quality stands these days. Used to be WALKER brand were the best. They no longer exist.
NAPA sold Walker under their own brand name.
Craftsman used to sell...

Re: Public Service Announcement: Avoiding Ethanol
Like many of you, I have NEVER had an issue with ethanol fuel.
All of my modern cars require premium fuel. Two of those are in storage during winter. Still, never an issue.
Lawn mowers, etc. get...

Re: Spring removal and Columbia installation
SoCal,
Unless I am restoring a car, I install the Columbia pretty much as outlined in their instructions. That is, I remove only the left axle housing.
Installing one of these units is rather easy....

I'll try to get some photos posted ASAP.
No restoration at all. Just putting together a truck that's been stored in pieces for over fifty years.
I'm having a lot of fun, learning a lot and must...
