If it were a flathead it would be hot but if you do a little research you may find that it's pretty normal for the engine you are using.

That's wonderful. Over 30 years ago I converted my vehicle to 12 volts and never converted the starter.
Have not touched the starter since.

This is an 8BA engine which has a different breathing system. There is not any triangular protrusion/vent in that location on an 8BA configuration.

The restrictor hole is built into the filter...

Probably depends on if it's a water cooled or air cooled engine.
Generally the mfg. of the engine sets the standard.
So if now you want to use oil temp. as a standard, what oil temp. are YOU going...

If you have the old U joint, compare the depth.
Even if you don't have the old one, it seems that a fabricated washer of necessary thickness to go between the joint and the bearing surface would...

The modified GM from Bubbas has the bearing shaft below the gear and was most likely used in the dedicated aluminum cover that it fits.
So the .911 dimension does not have to fit anything.

Seeing that you have eliminated the fuel pump, have you eliminated the fuel pump push rod and if so, how have you addressed the open push rod bushing?
