New exhaust manifold..use the rings. Old manifold..maybe not. Particularly if it has been milled, etc. The engine block side will be deep enough, old manifold, maybe not.

The oil pump is a simple displacement pump...not a pressure pump. Only lifts oil about 6 inches. If the gears fit well and not bind, I would think all should be good?

:)Junk in my opinion. why put it back in? Its wore out. So, i put it back and now have a rebuilt trans? Well i took it apart and put it back together...doesnt that mean its rebuilt?

Blackwalls is my vote, IF and only if, I had purchased say, a roadster (deluxe) that had them I would run them till they wore out - then replace with blackies. A deluxe roadster with dual sidemounts...

Well first thing I'd check is make sure you have good fuel flow from the tank, through the pump, etc. I'm thinking the pump could be bad, needing a rebuild. Could be a big vaccum leak on the intake...

No oil passages in the head or on top of the block. Likely (IF) you have a problem it's going to be a ring problem or possibly worn/loose intake valve guide IMO. Do like others have said and just run...

Anybody try one of the high-tech manifold coatings? If so, what has been your experience. Not talking here about fizz can paint jobs with barbecue paint, just the specialty shops, like Jet Coat,...

I donno, I thought the pump pumped about a gallon ( 4 qts) a minute...so at 5 quarts in the sump, the drain is likely out of the oil alot. Just wondering.

Yes, a shim would move the drum out. You do want the hub/drum on the axle tightly with the hub nut, Check the spec for that but it is tight.... like 100 ft. lbs (or more) if I recall correctly. Also...
