Re: Flathead project

Being nosey, here...Did you pull the plugs out of the crank, to clean out the sludge, then replace with new plugs? (Few modern machinists know to do that, these days) I recently built a '49 239 and...

Re: Timing Mark Indicator

I'm gonna have to mark the degrees on the pulley lip. My old Craftsman timing light is from the late '50s, so there's no advance...

Re: Timing Mark Indicator

My '49 8BA has a timing pointer and a dot on the wide rim at the rear of the crankshaft pulley, but I'm not sure how to mark the degrees of the pulley. (Like what is the distance between "0" and "5"...

Re: V8 flathead valve info...

I used Chevy 1.6" exhaust valves for both intake and exhaust for my '49 8BA. Maybe my mind's trying to justify that choice, but the engine really seems to like that combination!

'50s Lincoln 337 intake manifold

I have a nice, silver, powder-coated 337 intake manifold that I think maybe pretty rare. It would really look good on a fresh rebuild and has not been used, since it was powder coated.

I have no...

Re: Progressive set-up with two 94s

Thanx to everyone who replied.

I believe the name Charlie Price, from Vero Beach, came up, during the conversation. I live about 70 miles from Vero Beach...... might run over there some day and...

Progressive set-up with two 94s

Recently was told of a '40 Ford owner, who had one full-time carburetor, with another one that had no idle circuit.....as in a progressive set-up. (with an aluminum two carb intake.)

According to...

Re: Holley 94 jetting/power valve for dual carbs

Good discussion, here. I can see both sides' versions.

I'm gonna try with my two Holley 94s, using power valve plugs. Others, who are using them, report that they run well. I can always install...

Re: Push button start question

The FE blocks began in '58 as the big-block engines, that progressed from the 332 and 358 versions, then got bigger until the 427s arrived. That includes the 332, 358, 390, 406, and 427s. I'm not...

Holley 94 jetting/power valve for dual carbs

I've rebuilt my '49 Ford V8, it's been bored to 257 ci (approx) has a re-ground S-1 Winfield (copy) cam, dual exhausts and 1.6" Chevy valves. It has a Chevy distributor/12V system and it starts and...

Re: GM Distributor for 49-53 Flathead

With two Holley 94s, and a more progressive cam, the vacuum signal is less than my original Vacuum-only Ford distributor could function with.

So, I got my '60s era V-8 GM point distributor,...

Re: Draft tube / crankcase vent

I'm in the process of rebuilding a '49-'53 Mercury engine (.125 over=276) and would like to read of anyone's successful adaptation of a PVC system, in lieu of the old draft tube.
