In my case it was a pinhole air leak in the fuel line. Apparently it doesn't take much to lose the siphon/vacuum.

My grandfather served in the China/Burma/India theater and was flown out of China on one of those "between the mountains" flights.

There were hundreds of them, but what are the chances..........

Just be mindful of the other crud that may come loose.

I flushed the radiator on my '39 Buick with vinegar, then the soap from a dishwasher gel pack (they are all super-low sudsing).

The inner and outer components can be a little tricky. The sticky points should be showing themselves as scuff marks on the plastic.

I think a little sandpaper on the spots that are binding will...

Hey, Andy -

2 things.....if you can fit a piece of paneling or carpet instead of cardboard it will be that much more protection than cardboard. It takes nothing to wrinkle or pierce these...

The other thing is to run a nylon stocking filter on the radiator inlet hose after any cleaning efforts.

I didn't and my sequential treatments of dishwasher detergent and vinegar busted loose some...
