Re: 49 ford ground cable

Can't speak to the '49 cars but the ground straps on the trucks also had a dedicated bolt. I've not seen the head bolts used by the factory. My experince isn't perfect.

Re: 1935-48 Flathead engine mounts.

I used the Carpenter version, as I recall, and have no issues with them. Any NOS rubber item will have long gained the pliability of a hockey puck - nicely matching the exact condition of the...

Re: Flatheads,nature,time and effort

I've seen this movie. The least demaged surfaces are exposed everything else is embedded in dirt and grass. Nothing good happens to metal. Let it finish its return to the earth.

Re: Seized 59AB Engine - Solutions

That starter sure doesn't look good at all. If there wasn't any oil in the pan, this one may not even disassemble. Get the wrenches out and look under the heads.

Re: Horn going off

No prying.

Disconnect the battery.
Push down on the button and turn counterclockwise. Usually about a quarter turn, or less, will do the trick.

Re: 36 door handle problem

A feature on later years was a driver's door that locked from the inside (pull up on the handle to lock - push down to release). Don't know if this was present in 36.

Re: 36 door handle problem

When you say the handle doesn't open the door from the outside, does the handle not turn?

Re: 49 Ford truck with 59a engine

An important point to recall is that the shoebox models were a bit delayed causing the '48 car models to be extentions of the '47 versions. There was an abbreviated run of '48 cars before an early...

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work?

I replaced mine when the interior panels were off. You may want to do the same. Having a full view of the mechanism helps immensely.

Also, the garnishes need to come out.

Re: 1950 F1 Truck Fan - 4 or 6 Blade???

The shrouds would seem to be at least as important as the fan configuration - especially with the 226 I-6.

Re: aligning a 48 hood

The best reference is an article from the May/June 2009 V8 Times. Reprints are available through the Early Ford V8 Club.

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump

Not certain about the G engines but the H versions - with the OE pump - are good on temps provided the shroud is in place.
