Re: Timing gear

I have never noticed noise from a metal timing gear on a model A.
I think I hear a little extra noise on my ‘51 V8 with aluminum gear but it doesn’t bother me.
I hate roadside restorations.
I have...

Re: Charlie ny computor

When I was a little kid, about 75 or more years ago, my folks showed me some two pronged plugs that you were supposed to plug the electrical outlets with when you weren’t using the outlet.
They said...

Re: Just had a Model A wedding

I could go fo some wedding cake too, since I am only 12 miles away.
About three years ago I picked up the bride and groom from the church and drove them to the reception in Oakland in a model A...

Re: Skip's rebuilt coils

I sure agree Rotor.
Skip’s coils sure make the car owners happy.
I put two, maybe three NAPA coils on a ‘35 convertible sedan that the owner hated to drive because it would NEVER start when the...

Re: Locked up!

When you put it in first gear and let the clutch out, does it kill the engine?
If no: put it in third gear and let the clutch out. Does the speedometer show some speed?
If so you’ve no doubt a...

Re: 8BA fuel pump pushrod diameter

Be sure you’re using an 8BA pushrod.
The ‘48 earlier are thinner, but they will work.

Re: Turlock Swap Meet

I celebrate my birthday (Jan. 26th) every year by going to the Turdlock swap meet.
I always see folks there that I don’t otherwise see.
Almost always see or learn something that I never forget.
I...

I get mine from Harbor Freight.

Re: installing engine

I ALWAYS USE A TREE CORNERED FILE TO TAKE THE SHARP EDGES OFF THE DISC splines BEFORE I INSTALL the clutch.
Then do the same one the pilot shaft. What a difference that makes.
I use two long bolts...

Re: Sanford & Son Pickup Truck

In one of the episodes Sanford called it a ‘50, but it didn’t show the truck.
I think he was reporting it stolen.
So thinking it was a ‘50 I painted my ‘51 green like it always was.
If I’d have...

Re: Wisdom of Stopping Engine by Choking It Out

I remember back in the day seeing folks rev up their engine real fast and shuting the ignition off. Especially in the winter time.

Re: NGK Plugs

The gold color on the threads is something sprayed on to help keep the plugs from sticking to the head so you can never strip the threads when removing the plugs. They break loose easier that way.
I...

Re: 6 volt Generator in 12 volt system

Headlight switch is the same for 6 and twelve volts.
Horn relay should be changed. Actually my ‘51 F1 doesn’t have a horn relay.
Starter solenoid is actually a relay, it should be changed but I...

Re: Engine Expert Opinions Needed

Are you using the correct cylinder for number One?
Once on a T timing gear I misstook a brand mark for the timing mark.
It was a dot with a letter in it.
The real mark was not very easy to see.

60% of the load ahead of the center point between the axles.
Or always have 200 lbs. on the hitch.

I use Amsoil in some of my cars. I also became an Amsoil distributor a few years ago.

Re: Remote oil filter. Help!

But the spin on conversion is still a by pass system and a lot easier and cleaner to change the filter on.
I’m thinking of giving the Mercury my F1 filter and getting a spin on conversion for myself.

Re: 51 custom diff cover gasket, need help!!

Before you yank an axle out with a chain you really should hook up another chain to the rear spring or something so that when the outer axle bearing brakes loose the axle flange doesn’t get you.
I...

Re: Loud Noise when car decellerates while i n first and second gears

If the noise is the crank moving back and forth the sound should change if you just hold the clutch pedal down a little keeping the throw out bearing against the pressure plate.
Some years ago a guy...
