Re: 1934 Deluxe 3 Window

So, in other words Mecum got $11,040 for selling that car.

Re: Holley 94 carb jets

A Holley main jet size is close to the inch measurement (#51 jet = approx. .051") As sizes get larger, the inch measurement gets further from the number size. I'm pretty certain the jet # is...

Re: rear end ratio

Do it with one tire on the ground. You more than likely have a 4.27:1 Dana 44 axle. (double the number you got with both tires off the ground).

Re: Holley 1273-2S carburetor

The 1273-2S is a service replacement for the original 1273 and 1273-1 that were used on '57 312's. They were built after the '57 production run and after the 1273-1's ran out of stock. Not quite as...

Re: Y block Mercury engine color?

Yes, my stupid mistake. Didn't notice the print on the bottom of the photos. Guess I'm not perfect. I feel good that I knew what they were though.

Re: Y block Mercury engine color?

Also the picture of the pale blue or green engine with the oblong air breather is a '54 Mercury 256 Y-Block V8.

Re: Y block Mercury engine color?

The picture with the yellow engine is a '55 Mercury, so this color doesn't apply to '56 or '57.

Re: radiator for 55 merc with 302

Probably because the '53 was a flathead V8 and the '55 is a 292 Y-Block OHV V8. Plus the '53 radiator will have two upper hoses and two lower hoses. '55 used one on top and one on the bottom. Can't...

Re: Towing capacity of a 292

delco1946, do you have one of the very very rare '55 Ford's that actually came with the 292 police interceptor engine (with the first digit of the VIN being a "P"), or was the 292 installed later ?

Re: Towing capacity of a 292

True, heavy trucks used 292's with steep gears, however they also had heavy duty larger rear axles with a larger gear oil capacity, along with heavy duty frames and suspension. A 292 car is not made...

Re: What year Harley?

Even if this was a Harley forum, it would probably take more pictures or a better one to tell the exact year.

Re: Carburator problem, I think

How does an inlet valve cause an engine to not idle, but runs when more throttle is applied ?

Re: Distributor fittings

I believe they are two different sizes. The inner diaphragm for the line from the front of the carb should be 3/8-24. Not sure about the outer one for manifold vacuum. I think it's for an inverted...

Re: 1956 T bird rear continential cover

Or if you don't have a 1000 point show car, you should be able to get a spring that will work from an ACE hardware, or do the trick that paul2748 mentioned in post #3.

Re: 1951 shoebox a chevrolet guys 1st Ford

Comp Cams should be able to tell you how much manifold vacuum to expect, so you have an idea how well power brakes will work.

Re: original paint y blocks

I guess they must have mixed it up in '55 with 292's. Or the info online isn't 100% accurate. Also possible the heads were swapped at one point, but with 17,000 original miles that's kind of...

Re: original paint y blocks

Ron, '55 Mercury's with the standard 188 HP 292 engine should have come with ECK-A or ECL-A heads originally. The 198 HP Montclair 292 should have come with ECK-C, ECL-C or ECL-B heads originally.

Re: Rear Tire Jacking info on 1955 ford stationwagon.

Try to put a jack stand under the frame with the tire off the ground, then put your floor jack under the same side of the axle to raise it up slightly and try again to get the tire off. The problem...

I wouldn't trust that Canadian brochure, especially since it shows a 1955 Engine. Sal
