Re: POR-15 Metal prep?

I use it on most everything I plan to paint that might rust or is rusty. About half the time I use POR-15, and the rest of the time I use rustoleum or something else. I think it does a great job...

Re: Car quits

Will it start right up after it quits? Do you have to pull the choke to restart? What if you set the throttle up a notch or two so the idle is faster when stopping? I had the same problem but had...

Re: Model A still wont start

I think we all agree the problem is the voltage is only 1.2 volts at the moveable arm. My suggestion to try moving the key in the ignition switch and few times and checking to make sure the voltage...

Re: Model A still wont start

If you don't have 6+ volts at the moveable arm when the points are open, you need to move upstream to find out why. I had that same problem with the engine quitting and finally got help here. When...

Re: Model A still wont start

I think you're looking at the brake switch. The pop out we are talking about is the switch that your key goes. It doesn't matter which type you have for now to do the troubleshooting. Do as post...

Re: ignition switch repair

I took mine apart and found it loaded with grease. Cleaned out the grease and works great. It is a switch like 2manycars posted purchased from one of our good vendors. The replacement our ordered...

Re: Model A insurance?

Same as #2. Switched to Grundy and saved 30%. Would not have checked them out except for a similar question when renewal time.

Re: Weird fuel issue keeping me from driving my coupe. Any ideas?

I agree with George in post #9. Make sure it's not electrical by simply checking the spark next time it quits. I had a problem like yours, towing the A home twice. I kept changing parts in the...

Re: Original style model a points

I had a similar problem with the points I have purchased from multiple sources. I finally took my dremel tool to the plate to enlarge the adjustment enough to get the points to line up properly. ...

Re: Strange Problem

Do as others have suggested and do the diagnostic checks before replacing any more parts. I had a similar problem and finally found a thread here on checking the voltage at the points arm, open and...

Re: Drop light LED bulb

Tom W suggested one a few years ago that I bought. They last a long time and not heat. Try to get one with natural color as they can be very bright white.

Re: 82-b pickup lower seat springs question

I bought a replacement lower seat spring a few years ago, and it came with the loops in them and the overhang is minimal. It seems to be a very good reproduction of the original. Can't remember...

Re: Speedometer cable clip placement on frame

Had the same problem and used zip ties. I didn't know the bracket was used. Mitch/Pa, where on the firewall does the other other one go?
Thanks for the help! I learn something every day reading...

Re: O'Reilly Points

Yes, the ones I have are made in Mexico too. Same box that 1955cj5 has. I would still like to find some that are good and will hold up. Meanwhile, I switched over to the modern points set up by...

Re: O'Reilly Points

As 1955cj5 said. They come with everything including a small capsule of lube. I purchased two sets to have a spare. I found they didn't align well without modifying the upper plate. I had to...

Re: Intermittent Overheating at Highway Speeds

I purchased the same gauge and just installed it. Mine also reads nearly 190 degrees. I have a Motometer, and checked my new radiator with one of those IR heat sensing guns. The top tank was about...

I changed the filter on mine a few weeks ago, and the threaded adaptor came off with the old filter. Just put it back on with the new filter.

Re: Factory points or Modern points?

I'd like to use the original, but the points I have tried are so bad I switched. The wear blocks are so bad I had to adjust the points every 75 miles. I tried one from a vendor and 3 different sets...

Re: Points and timing help

Glad you got the problem fixed and the car running. Others are correct in that you need to get some lube on the points rubbing block. I recently converted from the original points set up to the...

Re: Points and timing help

You have a modern style points set up with the wireless plate. That L shaped copper piece has to make contact with the lower plate to get voltage to the points. Loosen the nut and rotate the L...

Re: Suddenly won't start

How did you measure the 6 volts at the distributor? I had a similar problem, but I think I could only measure the voltage at the moveable arm. I discovered the cable that ran from the switch to the...

Re: Ignition switch

I had a similar problem. Took it apart and found it full of grease. The grease got between the contacts. Cleaned out the grease and works fine now. A second one I returned to the vendor showed...

Re: Pop-out cable

I've been chasing a similar problem. I kept finding things wrong, and it kept improving slightly but still would quit. I'm up to about 100 miles before it starts to run poorly. Latest problem is...
