Re: Crab distributor coil images

Dean. Here is a pic of my '46, 59AB, showing the bracket mounted with two intake manifold bolts. The engine compartment looks a bit better after the cleanup. Yes, I know that the ignition wire...

Re: 47 Ford Headlights

Gar. Bullet connections should not be hot, unless there is a poor connection. I had to go through the connectors on my '46, to clean the bullet ends and clean and resize the female connectors. I...

Re: Vacuum reading

My '46, with a stock 59AB, runs a steady 21" at idle, and 15" to 16" at 50 mph.

Re: 46 crab dist tune/replace

I had Bubba do the distributor for my '46 "rabbit ear", and still working great after two seasons. It will save you a lot of bucks if you can get it done in Beamsville. Bubba does an excellent job...

Re: '40 Brake Bleeding

I turned drums, replaced shoes and wheel cylinders as well as the master cylinder. I'm getting fluid to each wheel, but will not bleed as they should. I will check the tabs out for sure.

Mike. I...

Re: 1950 Ford Wiper

Had that problem with my '46 Coupe. I changed the vacuum motor, and not much improvement. More investigation found that the shaft that comes up through the cowl, was partially seized in the piece...

Re: Surging

In my experience, if the surge is a gentle slow/speed up symptom, it is typically a fuel issue. It the surge is quick and jerky, that is generally an ignition problem. The causes can be many, so...

Re: Magna flux tool

Probably a very old unit, that uses permanent magnets instead of electricity to generate the needed magnetic field. Would likely work if you had the appropriate ferrous powder to "dust" the area...

Re: Fan belt

Jim. The belt that drives the pumps and generator on my '46 Coupe, 59AB, is a Gates TR24530.

Re: '40 rear axle tapered spindle

Sanding the lining is not a problem I had to do the linings on my '46 Coupe, as there was no place the get the shoes arced. There are several ways that I read in the posts on how to do it. I...

Re: Autolite 216 plugs

Those E3’s are expensive! In Canada, with currency exchange, taxes, duties, and shipping, they would be about $15.00 each. I haven’t had any problems with the 216’s I’m running so far, but will Try...

Re: front shocks

I need to do the oil in the shocks on my Ď46 Deluxe this spring, and have been thinking about what oil to use. It seems there are a number of opinions as to what is the best oil. I believe the oil...

Re: 40 Ford Flat 8 Idle Issue

I would suggest you have an air leak in the intake somewhere. There could be a leak in the intake manifold gasket, or the carb to manifold gasket. If there is a vacuum line to the wipers, it is...

Re: Lincoln brakes

I'm not sure if I understand the concern about the angle of the E-brake tube. I installed the MT Lincoln style brakes on my '46 Coupe, and unless MT changed the design in the last few years, I...

Re: Oil pressure mystery

Some good suggestion listed in the above posts. My bet is sludge buildup restricting the oil pump intake, causing cavitation in the pump, or incorrect oil level, not allowing enough "drain down" to...

Re: 32-48 Gas Tank Question

jk. There are six holes, and they are not evenly spaced, so that the sender can only be installed in the correct orientation for the float arm to move freely. You don't say what vehicle you are...

Re: Choke/throttle rods set up

The throttle on my stock '46 Coupe won't stay where I set it, and returns to idle. Were they ever built to stay where they were set? Can they be repaired to stay set, and how?

Re: 1 wire alternator installation questions..

You will likely get a number of different suggestions, but I believe Powermaster makes what you are looking for. Check pages 58 and 59. I've run their 6V + ground on my 59AB in my '46 Coupe for the...

Starter Drive Lube

I had the spare starter for my 59AB rebuilt, and the builder lubed the "thread" on the drive, with what looks like a light grease. As my memory serves, I remember reading a post where it was...
