Re: Bore diameter in Axle for King Pin

Yes people are driving with these axles for a long time.

How many check these axles after using them regularly to see if they had bent or not?

Interesting when I asked that exact question years...

Re: 1928 Bill of Sale from NJ and converting it to a new title- NJ DMV advice needed

You can call DMV anonymously.

A few years ago I called. Was curious as I got the frame and engine from a rodder and I know he had not transferred an old NJ title (there was a fire and DMV lost the...

Re: In need of a good front axle

Restoring a car properly is not easy, fast or cheap.

I have never said it was easy.
There were more then 4 million axles made by Ford, every car got one and they were all the same. In any...

Re: Bore diameter in Axle for King Pin

A lot of wrong things are done everyday, that does not make it right.

The fact is the axles are special metal that does not bend easy. You heat it and it bends like butter. Over the years the...

Re: How to remove horn ratchet?

Left hand threads!!!!! The SW horns use left hand threads and yes the stud does break easy if you go the wrong way.

Yes, I learned how to make left hand threads on my lathe.

Re: Brake pin peening

NO BOLTS for this application!!!

The purpose of the rivet is to get fat and fill the voids so there is no play.

A bolt can allow for some play and the arm change position, wear and what not....

Re: Bore diameter in Axle for King Pin

Axles are common every car had one.

Look for one with good holes and has not been heated to remove the perches.

Never heat the axle it makes allows it to bend MUCH easier.

Re: My condensers are making me depressed

So the meter you are showing tells you the value of capacitance.

Unfortunaltly that is useless.

I have had failed capacitors show correct values with one of those.
The capactors are 2 thin...

I heard you might need some help here.

I have a 31 slant cabriolet and bought the early repro sliders which a close to the 32 style. I would need to see pictures of your sliders. My comments...

Re: Tie Rod - Original vs. Repro

Why more questions need to asked beyond bending. I will say I do not have the answers to any of the below questions.

What metals are involved?

How well are the threads formed that hold the...

Re: Peening Main Bearings

You can get an older line bore set up and they come with all the Ford locating fixtures.

I believe they typically sell for $2000.

There are some advantages to a KRW set up. Especially if the...

Re: Peaning Main Bearings

Smitty are you planning on doing your own pour?

Babbitt is actually very complex to pour as there are a bunch of rules. There is a lot of science as your goal is to have small crystals form.

It...

Re: Welded Wheel Studs onto Hub

Not really a recommended practice.

You would have been wise to ask the question here first. You will find hundreds of these cast drums are all being swaged onto the hubs with no issues.

Re: 68c

It is a 68C body on a 30 chassis. Depending on the frame, the frame may not have the correct mounting holes for the slant body. Starting with the introduction of the vicky in sept 30 they came out...

Re: Wheel work.

From my experiences.

Carbon instead of rebar for the anodes (think they are positive, I wrote that on my container). Leaves the parts easier to clean.

Consider putting one down the center....

Re: Give me a brake!

Brakes, spend the money and get great brakes no floaters needed.

Unless you have the tools to do them right brakes are best left to those who do. It is nice to hear a success story.

So what...

Re: 1930-31 cabriolet

See the link to my 68C website below.

The slant bodies had different seat and steering wheel placement. This gives a bit more room in the car (I stresss a bit).

Cabriolet bodies are unique...

Re: Carburetor recommendations

Depending on what you have for an engine, the best carb is the one carefully put together with known jet flow rates.

Recently I went through all my jets after building a water tube to Ford specs...

Re: Front Axle

You all are doing spring perches the hard way.

You need a long throw air hammer and cut off the end of a tool to make it flat.

Next you need the axle supported such that it can not move. I have...
