If I'm reading this right the opposite is true. A cold running engine will actually produce far more sludge than one with a thermostat that keeps it at 180 or so. Sludge is caused by unburned fuel...

For some reason Ford couldn't make up it's mind in 1957. 312's came from the factory with either a 4150 Holley, a 4100 Ford (Motorcraft/Autolite) or a Carter AFB. Since all 3 were new that year...

Having "the same source for each spark" means that only one of the plugs fired at a time, so the only advantage would be longer plug life!
With just one path from the coil to the distributor...

Nothing happens if you try to pull the handle out while in overdrive. It simply won't move. Hit the kickdown and simply pull it out while moving. See post#4 and others.

Well, McCulloch superchargers were popular back in the '30's and '40's so the original oil pumps worked then. Should work now.
