Looking at the lean in those extensions they must not be very rigid.

Mine are and without any sway.

I used a Cone Point set screw from Fastenal, because the original would turn the Distributor when tightened down.

Might try that if all else fails.

Another endorsement for the JB Weld. I repaired a Ford 8n tractor block 20 years ago and its still good.
I've also had good luck with Bar's leak tablets.

That's how I did it.... I also had to hold the joint together tightly to get the threaded plug started.

The gear and tang have a lot of wear.
The advice is Purdy Swofts post will compensate for that.

Someone enlarged the distributor body advance lever opening, allowing
the column spark lever to have way too much travel..
This and too much initial advanced timing.

It's now repaired and...

30-31 Left rear fender

Looking for a good left rear fender to fit a 30 pickup truck.
Prefer to be within a 2 hour drive of Birmingham Al.

I found the problem. Too much timing advance.

I installed a Nu-Rex timing tab so I could check the timing with a timing light.

Turns out I had 5 degrees BTDC initial with the spark lever all...

Knock never changed with grounding plugs, not sure if i have adjustable tappets... I'll try the new suggestions next week.

Drained the tank and refilled with fresh gas, turned the GAV out enough to make it run rich, also grounded the plugs one at a time .. all great suggestions..but

Knock is still there ...
