Re: block cleaning

We do this to every engine that will need a rebuild.
It's the only way to get it cleaned, rather than acid dipping or hot tanking or jet wash. The blocks just don't get cleaned throughly, "washing...

Re: Repair of Police (B) Head..

Wow: I guess we'll have to call this customer with Pierce Arrow and tell him to throw the head away we've repaired.
Because stitching doesn't work?

Actually stitching is the best means to...

Re: the dreaded crack

I hope the welder has experience in welding old cast iron or else you'll have to search for another block. The metal is thin in those areas and we've seen many experts blow through them.
We do the...

Re: Help with vibration

No:
You don't balance flywheel with crank and there is no 180 degrees this way or 360 that way.
If the crank is balanced it doesn't need the flywheel to keep it's balance. Same goes for the...

Re: Help with vibration

Ha! I have never seen this even with the expensive pressure plates.
You'll have to take the flywheel off and balance it with pressure plate as an assembly.

Re: Water in my engine oil. Where could it come from ?

Welding the block will damage it permanently. Your best chance will be to add the block sealer as others have mentioned.
It's a common area to crack that's why I posted the picture.
it can be...

Re: Water in my engine oil. Where could it come from ?

Ursus: Actually we repair these with metal stitching. The crack goes around the cylinder so no need to drill into it. In order for the stop leak products to work the crack has to stop traveling....

Re: Water in my engine oil. Where could it come from ?

Hello Willi:
Two places to check is first head gasket as typically number three cylinder will go first.
Second is to remove side cover as Model A engines have weak area in valve chamber around...

Re: cylinder sleevesMachine Shop question.

Block is machined to accept the oversize sleeve and sleeve is a press fit into block.
While there are different types of sleeves whether they secure from top or bottom.
The sleeves for typical...

Re: Modern Valves - cutting?

Yes: The bottom of the valve stem is not something you can do yourself.
Take it to a machine shop and have them grind it to your specific dimension.

Re: New hi compression heads

I'm glad to see that people aren't having problems with the Snyder's head.

However every head that we have installed so far and most recently a week ago needed to be resurfaced.

We have in...

Re: B block cracks

Yes there is a permanent repair as seen in photos I have enclosed.
It's called metal stitching as others have mentioned.

I wouldn't recommend welding the block unless you are skilled and know...

Re: Nightmare Engine Rebuild

Yes: I would remove all the seats as what you have shown as example is poor work.
If they are loose enough to move when you hit them they aren't going to get tighter when it heats up as the seat...

Re: Flywheel housing question

Yes: Part of it is the way the engine is hung along with the wishbone pushing against the flywheel housing. Everytime you hit a pothole it causes pressure on the wishbone thereby putting pressure on...

Re: Nightmare Engine Rebuild

If you are to replace valve seats you'll need a accurate bore gauge to measure the counter bore and then after selecting right size seat you'll need to machine valve seat angles.
There is a...

These are the kind of hard stories that makes all shops look bad.
I had posted long while back about questions to ask a machine shop before handing over your engine.

Clearly if the valve seats...

I suggest if anyone were to have this done, take it to a reputable shop and have them do it as I have shown in picture.
