Careful of the spot-welded seam where the "stick" screws onto the ball assembly. With a nice shiny finish it may be hard to spot a flaw. My stick unscrewed on a shift from 1st to 2nd, lucky for me...

Following several printed/AV references, I cleaned and lubricated the S/W
oval unit in my '29 Coupe. A lot of dried grease and "stuff".! Slow and careful not to damage the delicate spring.....

Thanks papanick.. wanted to try this and learn as I did. Had replaced a bad cable, and cleaned and lubed the drive unit prior, I still had a noise and slight vibration I could feel on the speedo face...
