I had a flex line between the fuel pump and metal line come apart inside one time and you could blow back to the tank but not the other way.

I believe it's the taper that transmits the torque not the key. The Model A generator has no key, also look at machine tools such as lathes and mills.

If he puts a shim on the pinion and them the bearing that should move it
in towards the carrier but I don't think that is the correct way to do it. Need to
move the carrier over.
