Re: What is a "reasonable" speed in a Model A for one to get "reasonable" engine life

Everything working right, 35 to 40 MPH, car loves it. On up to 45 MPH, car doesn’t mind but starting to breath heavy. Over 45 MPH, you can feel it starting to work. Over 50 MPH, we are both to...

My secret. Engine pans, leak less water pump, new two blade aluminum fan, new correct radiator, and rebuilt distributor with correct timing.

No thermostat, use water...

Re: Can I use new cast brake drums with old shoes?

The secret is, when done correctly. This is not the place where I would try to save money. Anything that is worn, should be replaced. ...

I understand that, but why would you do that to your car?

I would love to hear the reason.

Re: Groaning Brakes

I would take the drums of if for no other reason than to grease the front wheel bearings and to re-torque the rear axel bolts.

Good idea to inspect. Not a lot of work, and you get a good look at...

Re: Knocking on start up

I’m not a big fan of rushing in and taking things apart. If the engine runs good, isn’t smoking or using any oil, and is quite after 30 seconds?

I would do one thing first. Change the oil. ...

Re: Checklist for startup after 10-month unplanned hiatus

Your right, I was lucky, but at the time we felt the engine was going to need rebuilding anyway. Little did we know that 40 years later it would still be running great.

After we started the...

Re: Checklist for startup after 10-month unplanned hiatus

Light tap putting the handle end of a large screw driver against emblem.

If your in the market for a reasonable looking and priced top, a pre made could be the way to go.

If your looking for more than that. I would look to...
